We are looking to fill a critical central position that will support several business modalities. Responsibilities include driving materials evaluation, safe and sustainable packaging designs, and concepts, and ensuring all inbound and outbound packaging is designed for defect free deliveries. In addition, the successful candidate will drive and achieve savings in transportation, materials, and product installation efficiency though packaging design and functional optimization. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions Include: Design packaging for optimal product protection, and efficient transport & delivery Identify opportunities for packaging material, handling and logistics cost savings based on chargeable weight/dimensions for transportation. Identify and lead opportunities across P&L’s and ensure savings are tied to ledger. Ensure 100% compliance with GEHC, Industry, global and region-specific packaging requirements, regulations, and harmonization (Customs and Government compliance) Provide support to ensure GEHC follows proper shipping requirements of hazardous materials Support and lead in updating GE HealthCare’s Global Packaging Requirements document Provide guidance for global packaging standardization, consistency, and quality compliance Work with design and product engineers early in new product development cycle to affect product design for efficient and economical logistics Align with cross functional teams (Logistics, order & materials management, plant operations, Service, Engineering, EHS and suppliers) to identify, qualify and drive packaging solutions to eliminate or mitigate existing packaging / product damage, and ensure safe packaging and handling protocol. Driving the 3R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle for cost savings and sustainability efforts. Quality Specific Goals: Comply with and champion GEHC’s Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and all global applicable laws and regulations pertaining to this position Complete all GEHC Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines Identify and report quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required Use knowledge and understanding of document control, product design & transfer, process implementation, validation & verification, acceptance activity, DMR, DHR and electronic signature requirements to ensure that product, equipment, tools, processes, software, training, and documentation meet GEHC and industry requirements. Understand and operate within GEHC manufacturing/production process procedures and work Instructions to ensure compliance to our quality management system. Lead / drive / delegate the creation of accurate, complete and timely records tied to product packaging. Required Qualifications: Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or related technical degree. Minimum of 3 years of experience in development, testing, and deployment of packaging for small and large industrial products, especially related to shock, vibration, and environmental protection for electronic products. Experience with shock & vibration testing to ASTM D4169 and ISTA 3A, 3B standards Ability to document designs, create 2D and/or 3D Engineering CAD models and provide detailed print drawings to vendors. Knowledge of the global transport environment for surface, air, and ocean distribution Experience in packaging optimization, consolidation, and materials Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Preferred Qualifications: Masters or PHD in technical concentration/field 5+ years of experience in packaging of large, heavy electronic products Experience with shipping dollies, cranes and lift systems, and other material handling equipment Certification for shipping hazardous materials by Surface (49 CFR), Air (IATA) and Ocean (IMDG) Knowledge of global material handling equipment and practices for large products Ability to design and implement comprehensive, horizontal processes and conventions aligning with multiple product lines Strong analysis capability with financial data to develop cost reduction business cases Self-driven and detail oriented. Demonstrated troubleshooting, analytical and planning skills Ability to work independently and in diverse teams Demonstrated strong communication skills (written and verbal) to all levels of the organization Ability to identify and implement Best Practices. Experience with packaging related global environmental regulations. 6-sigma DMAIC & DFSS certified Strong working knowledge of PRD milestones. Licensed Professional Engineer Solid working knowledge of GEHC QMS procedures for GMP Demonstrated program or project management skills Experience working with global teams and willing to occasionally work non-standard hours.
