The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the IFRS Accounting process within Manulife Japan Finance. This includes IFRS Accounting journal entries preparation, gathering and analyzing financial data, creating financial reports as per BU requests, and coordinating between departments to ensure timely submission to controllers and key stakeholders. The role requires someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with complex financial data.
Role and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Finance Manager in Chengdu, the role will support the Finance Controller of Japan Business Unit to secure finance and accounting accurately booked.
Responsibilities include the following:
Operational Support 1. Work with the Japan BU for IFRS accounting closing and conduct investigation over the accounts in their JGAAP and IFRS ledger. 2. Review system documentation that exists; document accounting entries generated by systems (for cases where documentation doesn’t exist). 3. Perform walkthrough and review effectiveness of control measures. Suggest more effective and efficient control measures. 4. Facilitate and coordinate multiple deadlines and respond quickly to management requests. 5. Maintain documentations on financial reporting policies and procedures. 6. Ensuring that right practices are observed and followed, such as separation of duties and accounting policies established by Asia Finance. 7. Escalate appropriately to ensure risks and issues requiring immediate attention are managed and resolved. 8. Lead touch point meetings, if needed, with the business operations and the leaders per business area. 9. Conduct peer-to-peer quality checks for reports produced by team members, if any. Special Projects Special projects will arise from time to time require strong financial knowledge, analytical and organizational skills with an innovative mindset. The role will participate in Asia regional priorities and strategic projects as assigned or other Adhoc activities as required by senior management pertaining to the introduction of new services, products, and processes.
Qualifications:
61 Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field 61 5+ years of controllership or compliance experience in transactional accounting field as well as progressive financial accounting and reporting experience 61 5+ years of identifying, leading, and executing opportunities to improve, automate, standardize or simplify finance or business tools and processes experience 61 Strong stakeholder management skills requiring persuasion and influencing, relationship building and negotiation skill. 61 Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities and strong technical accounting skills. 61 Self-starter, detail-oriented, willingness to take ownership and accountability of processes. 61 Strong oral/written communication skills required to interact with senior officers and representatives from other Divisions and functional departments 61 Highly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced, multi stakeholder environment and manage multiple priorities 61 Understanding of Lawson or general finance systems / applications available in the market. 61 Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel (i.e. mastery of excel formulas and pivot tables is a must). Proficient in MS Office suite including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Project. 61 Prior experience of managing regulatory reporting, External Reporting or Audit support is an advantage 61 Experience in Workiva, or any Finance reporting system is an advantage 61 Recognized accounting designation (CPA is preferred)
