What You Will Do: iRobot is looking for a Systems Engineer in our Guangzhou office to work with a global team of engineers. In your role as a technical leader on a consumer robot development team, you are crucial in ensuring the product meets or exceeds customer expectations. You'll support cross-functional teams in system and subsystem architectures, requirements generation, design execution, and product validation. You will use your skills and experience to evaluate tradeoffs and help define the best technical path forward. Using the voice of the customer you will refine requirements, contribute to theories of operation, and run trade studies. You will lead engineers using pragmatic risk management through integration, trouble shooting and test. You'll work at the intersection of hardware and software.
To Be Successful You Will Have: You possess good knowledge in at least one core area (software, mechanical, electrical) and an understanding of the other two. You can quickly learn new technologies through self-teaching or consulting with experts. You have experience with many systems engineering methods and an understanding of iRobot product technologies. You have a confident technical voice with the ability to collaborate with colleagues to reach consensus.
Qualifications: (1) Broad technical knowledge in several of the following topics: Embedded systems, hardware - software interactions and dependencies, interfaces, optical sensors, Wi-Fi, navigation, batteries and power electronics, and motion control. (2) Demonstrated cases of engineering leadership. (3) Knowledge of Systems Engineering tools and methods: Use case ideation, requirements development, risk analysis, trade space decision-making, root cause analysis. (4) Experience (2+ years) in new, high volume consumer product development. (5) BS in Engineering or related field. Solid knowledge in one of the core disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software) and a good knowledge of the other two. (6) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to learn quickly. (7) Ability to work proactively with limited supervision. (8) Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and trades clearly and concisely to fellow engineers. (9) Demonstrated systems thinking. (10) Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a mastery of the English language.
