Role Summary: - Actively support all students to access a balanced school curriculum and to ensure high quality education and improved standards of learning and achievement, - Support the department by taking on administrative tasks, as required - Support the teacher in all aspects of class as directed. - Work cohesively within a highly motivated and professional group of academic staff. - Collaborate and communicate effectively with all other academic staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching and Learning - Support the teachers to deliver excellent education for all students in subjects including science, English, mathematics, and other subjects as necessary. - Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the teachers and Head of Year. - Assist in the implementation of A Complete Education for students, help monitor their progress and feedback to teachers; - Assist students to access the curriculum safely. Matters relating to health and safety ultimately remain the teachers’ responsibility. - Undertake teaching tasks with groups of students, following plans as prepared by teachers; - Monitor students’ responses to learning tasks through a range of assessment activities, providing feedback to teachers - Discuss planning objectives with the teacher daily; - Prepare and manage classroom resources and teaching materials for educational activities. - Provide support for individuals and groups of students inside and outside the classroom; - Use personal expertise to enhance children’s learning experiences. - Use relevant technology to support instruction; - Provide or assist in the running of co-curricular activities as required - Assist in classroom preparation and creating a high-quality learning environment and ensure displays of work meet the high expectations set out in the school display policy - On occasion teach classes as a cover/supply teacher.
Pastoral Care - Assist class teacher in the pastoral care of the students in their class. - Support students with emotional / behavioural problems and help develop their social emotional skills / behaviours, including the implementation of behaviour modification programmes when required - Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom, including supporting access to camps, educational visits and whole school - Encourage and support the skills of independence and self-reliance - Create an effective and challenging learning environment for each pupil; - Assist in the induction of new children into class life as appropriate. - Acknowledge students’ improvement and effort; - Provide feedback to students in relation to progress/achievement under the guidance of the teacher - Assist students in settling into class before the class begins; - Supervise classes/groups of students moving around the campus; - Share supervision of children in the school during break periods. - Look after sick/hurt/upset students and attend to physical needs where appropriate
Communication and Collegiality - Work co-operatively and supportively with fellow professionals; - Share information, ideas and resources with colleagues; - Maintain positive relationships and communication with parents and the local community
Administrative Functions - Assist in the maintaining of student records eg. taking attendance, check homework planner/emails, etc.; - Advise as appropriate in the compilation of pupil reports and records by the teacher. - Be responsible for the students, under the guidance of the Head of Year/Key Stage Leader, if the teacher is absent. - Undertake routine tasks to support the curriculum and assist with events e.g. celebrations, outings, field trips and assume responsibility for a group, as required. - Where required, to attend and contribute to department, school and parent meetings. - Prepare and present displays of students' work: teachers will make professional decisions in determining what material is displayed - Support teachers in photocopying and other tasks in order to support Learning and Teaching - Undertake other duties from time to time as the teachers/managers require including: collecting money; photocopying and inputting student data; producing class lists; record keeping, filing; collating material; stocktaking; cataloguing, preparing, issuing and maintaining equipment and materials and ordering supplies and equipment - Engage with and attend professional development, as appropriate - Take a proactive approach towards continuous professional development
Standards and Quality Assurance - Support the aims and ethos of the School and Department by behaviours which display concern for the student as a whole person, tact, discretion, confidentiality and the willingness to work as a member of a team - Support the school’s image in the community; - Follow all policies and procedures - Adhere to child protection and safeguarding related policy, procedures and practice. - Set a good example in terms of dress code , punctuality and attendance - Work collaboratively with teachers - Attend team and staff meetings as requested - Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Manager or School Principal included but not limited to evening academic support, boarding duties.
Typical General Qualifications and Experience required: Minimum Typical Education - Bachelor’s Degree or above in education or related major preferred. - Teaching Qualification issued by the Education Bureau preferred
Experience - Relevant experience in schools is preferred
Abilities, Skills and Knowledge - Collaborative team member and strong problem solving skills - Ability to work effectively with individual students, small group and whole classes under the direction and supervision of the Teacher - Sufficient knowledge, expertise and awareness of students’ social, emotional and learning needs to work effective with teachers as part of a professional team - Strong verbal and written communications skill in Chinese and English - Computer literacy - Solid organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and multi-task - Demonstrate discretion and confidentiality at all times.
