Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the *** legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”. With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies, aiming to serve as a role model of the mainland-Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university, endeavoring to nurture future-oriented, high-level and innovative talents.
In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. This is a groundbreaking move in the higher education community across the globe.
The Institute of Education Innovation and Practice (IEIP) reports to the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning (VPTL) and leads the pedagogy and curricular innovation and its implementation on campus. It conducts educational research, develops supporting policies, procedures and guidelines, monitors teaching and learning performance and provides relevant training to faculty members, staffs and students. IEIP also organize high-level conferences and workshops by inviting world renowned scholars and experts with expertise in education to foster greater understanding of education sector, bridge closer ties, and more productive exchanges with peer universities.
Under the umbrella of IEIP, the Department of Teaching Development (DTD) is responsible for promoting excellence and innovation in teaching at HKUST(GZ), the support and advancement of active learning, teaching practices, and the professional development of all members of the campus teaching community, and encouraging a university culture with faculty, graduate students, and administrators that values and rewards teaching, respects and advances individual differences among learners.
DTD seeks a motivated Instructional Designer in Training and Teaching. This role focuses on enhancing faculty training and course development to improve the learning experience while evaluating and strengthening teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop Development: Create, implement and host workshops for new faculty, including developing training materials and evaluating effectiveness.
2. Course Development Support: Assist faculty in course design, integrating technology, and creating engaging assessments aligned with learning objectives.
3. Performance Evaluation: Observe teaching staff to evaluate performance and recommend strategies to enhance teaching skills.
4. Research and Resource Development: Stay updated on instructional design trends and develop resources to support faculty teaching efforts.
5. Responsible for other duties designated in relation to teaching development.

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field; candidates with proven capabilities that meet the requirements outlined below will also be considered.
2. At least one year of experience in instructional design, teaching, or training.
3. Familiarity with educational technologies and current trends in higher education.
4. Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
5. Open-minded and passionate about continuous learning.
6. Knowledge in coding is a plus.
This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST(GZ) entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
