PURPOSE OF THE ROLE Value Competitiveness Optics Expert is in charge to estimate and optimize the cost and design of the optical BOM of the products (instrument clusters, central and passenger displays, head-up displays, ect.) analyzing customer and system specification, product optical contents (LED, illumination concept, optical finishing and treatment of parts, lens, films, TFT, cooling, optical bonding, etc.), assembly cycle (inclusive make/buy/resource) and suppliers’ proposals in cooperation with Special Initiative Program Manager and VAVE Manager, Commodity and Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing Departments.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 61 Assessment of cost down areas of products’ optical BOMs, assess technical feasibility, definition of actions, effort estimations and timing necessary to implement the changes. 61 Re-designing advanced optical systems to achieve BOM cost reduction. 61 Assure proper and efficient technical redesign, design implementation, and validation to achieve internal and customer approval for the change. 61 Cooperate with internal and external stakeholders for the implementation of cost down proposals. 61 Drive cooperation with the development team to perform design reviews and technical assessments. 61 Estimating components and process scraps. 61 Cooperate with suppliers to identify and optimize product design, production tools and production process for cost reduction. 61 Support and participate to Design to Cost and VA/VE workshops to propose and estimate cost down proposals. 61 Assure the projects’ cross fertilization from developed actions and consolidate knowledge in form of lesson learned. 61 Manage and release related product and project documentation.
REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION (SCHOOL/SPECIALIZATION): Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering/Physics, or equivalent automotive lighting optical design experience. LANGUAGES: English fluent, additional language is preferred.
EXPERIENCES 61 Solid previous work experience (minimum 7 years) in optical design, experience with German OEMs is preferred. 61 Deep knowledge of LED, display, optical parts and optical bonding, their specification and influence of the design, components, and production process selection. 61 Knowledge of LED, display and optical parts production tools and processes. 61 Proficiency in tools for optical analysis and design, such as optical modeling and simulation software. 61 Good knowledge of OEM Norms for design verification and product validation, experience with German OEMs is preferred. 61 Experience with light measurement systems; automotive preferred.
