Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the *** legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”. With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies, aiming to serve as a role model of the mainland-Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university, endeavoring to nurture future-oriented, high-level and innovative talents.

In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. This is a groundbreaking move in the higher education community across the globe.

The Institute of Education Innovation and Practice (IEIP), reporting to the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning (VPTL), leads initiatives in pedagogical and curricular innovation on campus. IEIP conducts educational research, develops supporting policies, procedures, and guidelines, monitors teaching and learning performance, and provides relevant training for faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, IEIP organizes high-level conferences and workshops, inviting world-renowned scholars and experts in education to foster a deeper understanding of the education sector, strengthen ties, and facilitate productive exchanges with peer universities.

Under the umbrella of IEIP, the Department of Teaching Development (DTD) is responsible for promoting excellence and innovation in teaching at HKUST(GZ). DTD supports and advances active learning, teaching practices, and the professional development of the entire teaching community on campus. It also fosters a university culture among faculty, graduate students, and administrators that values and rewards teaching while respecting and embracing individual differences among learners.

To strengthen these efforts, DTD is seeking an Instructional Designer who will take the lead in matters related to e-learning and generative AI technologies. This role focuses on enhancing faculty training, supporting course development, and integrating innovative technologies to elevate the learning experience. The successful candidate will also play a critical role in collaborating with the IT department to resolve technical challenges and ensure seamless integration of technology into teaching practices.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technology Integration & Faculty Support:
61 Lead the integration of e-learning and generative AI technologies into course design and faculty development programs.
61 Conduct faculty workshops and one-on-one consultations to enhance the use of technology for effective teaching and student engagement.
61 Provide expert guidance on the use of digital tools and AI-powered educational solutions to improve learning outcomes.

2. Workshop Development & Training:
61 Design, implement, and lead workshops on instructional technology, active learning strategies, and best practices in course design.
61 Develop training materials and conduct evaluations to measure the effectiveness of faculty development programs.

3. Course Development & Instructional Design Support:
61 Assist faculty in designing and developing courses that incorporate active learning, digital tools, and AI-based solutions.
61 Support the creation of engaging assessments that align with learning objectives and technological innovations.

4. Collaboration with IT & Problem-Solving:
61 Work closely with the IT department to ensure seamless integration of instructional technologies and troubleshoot any technical issues.
61 Advocate for user-friendly and scalable technological solutions to enhance the teaching and learning environment.

5. Research & Resource Development:
61 Stay updated on emerging trends in instructional design, e-learning, and AI-powered education tools.
61 Develop guides, tutorials, and resources to support faculty in adopting new technologies.

6. Additional Responsibilities:
61 Perform other duties related to teaching development as designated by the Head of the Department of Teaching Development.

任职要求:
1. A PhD (or currently pursuing a PhD) or a Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Psychology, Learning Sciences, Computing, Data Science, or a related discipline.(Candidates with a Master’s degree and extensive experience in a Centre for Teaching and Learning will also be considered.)
2. Teaching experience in higher education is preferred, but candidates with strong backgrounds in instructional technology, curriculum design, or faculty professional development will also be considered.
3. Extensive experience in faculty development, instructional design, or technology-enhanced teaching.
4. Proven experience in designing and implementing curricula for faculty professional development programs and student learning enhancement initiatives.
5. Expertise in e-learning, educational technology, and generative AI applications in teaching and learning.
6. Familiarity with learning analytics and data-driven decision-making in instructional design.
7. Familiarity with programming (e.g., Python, R, HTML, JavaScript) for educational technology integration is beneficial but not required.
8. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
9. Experience collaborating with IT departments to support the implementation and troubleshooting of instructional technologies.
10. Familiarity with higher education systems in both Hong Kong and Chinese mainland.
11. Proficiency in both English and Mandarin.

This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST(GZ) entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
