Bota Bio is looking for a distinctive Scientist to join our Strain Development team. The Scientist will be responsible for developing alternative hosts for producing recombinant proteins in therapeutic applications. The Scientist will work collaboratively with other research staff to engineer cell lines, identify and derisk bottlenecks, and develop new technologies to deliver against project milestones. This is an opportunity to participate in commercial manufacturing while shaping the platform of the future in a dynamic company. Job Description and Responsibilities - Engineer metabolism and other biological aspects to boost the production of functionally active proteins. - Develop genome editing techniques for a wide range of microbial chassis (e.g., bacteria, yeast). - Generate rational or random strain libraries using combinatorial multiplexed methods as appropriate. - Apply high-throughput analytical methods to facilitate bulk genotyping/phenotyping of genetic variants. - Work with in-house robotic automation and software infrastructure for LIMS data tracking. - Improve workflow efficiency for better economics, equipment utilization, and turnaround time. - Contribute to the selection of protein-based biologics in a wide variety of application areas. Experience and Qualifications - We favor candidates with a Ph.D. and strong track record in some of these areas: protein biologics (antibody engineering techniques, therapeutic protein/peptide production, protein glycosylation), metabolic engineering (bioreaction/pathway design, flux balance analysis, analytical chemistry), molecular biology (DNA assembly, NGS sequencing, microbial genome editing), or related fields. - Experience with visualizing large amounts of data; using scripting is preferred (e.g., Python, SQL). - Having good communication skills, highly collaborative in a team setting. Working conscientiously with a strong sense of work responsibility. Comfortable with speaking and writing in English.
