Environmental Coordinator As Environmental Coordinator for Varner Far East, you will be responsible for on-going development and implementation of Varner Environmental Strategy and related projects in China. Actively support strategy and implementation for Varner’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Major areas of responsibility: Contribute to the on-going development of Varner Global Environmental Sustainability strategy and implementation program in Varner Far East supply chain, focusing on Climate Action, Natural Resource Footprint, Wastewater and Chemical Management. - Support environmental manager to develop the strategy & standard operating procedures for aspects related to environmental management. - Support supply chain for on-boarding and capability building regarding Varner Global Environmental Strategy and SAC Higg Facility Environmental Module. - Evaluate factory conditions and performances related to climate action, chemicals, wastewater and natural resources to program strategy solutions, and seek solution to the root cause of issues found during on site assessments and audits (from raw material to finished product). - Implement Supplier engagement with projects and requirement through Supplier Environmental KPI’s - Engage with suppliers and factories to ensure environmental requirements are known, specifically related to SAC, STWI, DETOX & IPE. - Request action from the suppliers and factories and remediate issues or non-compliance found in audits or products, to align strategies and share best practices. Stakeholder Engagement - Ensures understanding & implementation of Varner Global Environmental Strategy. - Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional stakeholders including IPE, SAC, STICA, ZDHC, regional representatives of fellow member brands of common initiatives, Civil bodies & NGOs. - Manage partnerships and relationships with 3rd parties required to deliver the Report & Data. - Report on supplier communications, on site visits, performance assessment and case studies. - Manage data and remediation actions for suppliers. - Provide frequent reporting on process related to supply chain performance and projects - Ensure security of data and integrity of information used and shared - Provide the stakeholders with information regarding climate action, chemicals, wastewater and natural resources, including case studies, information relating to NGO or media campaigns, and other ad-hoc requests. The position requires frequent travelling to China factories. It is estimated that 50% of the time will be spent in Hangzhou office and 50% will be spent travelling. You will be reporting to Varner Global Environmental Manager and Hangzhou Office Manager. Required experience: - Experience in environmental sustainability - Technical experience in climate action, water stewardship or chemical management - Basic knowledge on Factory EH&S and utilities management - Experience in implementation of Higg Facility Environmental Module is a plus - Excellent project management and communications skills - Able to effectively engage diverse range of stakeholders - Actively seeks opportunities for improvement/change Personality: - Result oriented and efficient - Ability to work independently - Well organized and good planning abilities - Good communication skills - Honest, positive, and outgoing - Absolute integrity Language skills: Excellent skills in written and spoken English and Mandarin.
