Position Overview: Duke Kunshan University (DKU) is a Sino-foreign Cooperative University approved by the Ministry of Education and founded by Duke University, Wuhan University and Kunshan City Government. DKU is a non-profit public welfare social organization with independent legal status. The campus is located in Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Science Park, Jiangsu Province. The position is based in Kunshan. The Development Communications Assistant is a member of Duke Kunshan’s Development and Alumni Relations team, which consists of professionals in Kunshan as well as in Durham, NC. This integrated team has joint accountability for fundraising and alumni relations to find resources and establish networks to support the short-term as well as long-term success of Duke Kunshan University. The Development Communications Assistant is responsible for helping broaden the communications and marketing efforts to serve the university’s fundraising and alumni engagement priorities. Some office management and administrative work is also expected. Reports to: Senior Communications Officer Essential Duties: Development Communications: 1. Participate in writing, translating and editing of development news, event coverage, campaign promotions, and donor/prospect communication materials to effectively market the DKU’s mission and fundraising priorities. 2. Assist with the ongoing update of DKU Foundation’s website and maintain the Foundation’s social media presence using WeChat and other platforms. 3. Responsible for the production and delivery of monthly Development newsletter, and maintain the development office’s email lists on MailChimp, Salesforce and other platforms. Alumni Communications: 1. Participate in writing, translating and editing of alumni stories, event coverage and campaign promotions to foster the long-term engagement and relationship between DKU and its alumni. 2. Assist with the ongoing update of DKU Alumni’s website and maintain its social media presence using WeChat and other platforms. 3. Responsible for the production and delivery of monthly Alumni newsletter and contacts management. 4. Perform other duties as assigned. 5. University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs. Required Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in communications, literature, media, public relations, or any related areas. Master’s degree and/or overseas experience will be a plus. 2. Knowledge of and/or involvement in Duke University and Duke Kunshan University, its disciplines and relationships, and willingness to develop an in-depth understanding. 3. Advanced level of English and Mandarin, orally and in writing. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills to work and partner with internal and external constituents. 5. Being able to multi-task and self-motivated to work under tight deadlines. 6. Familiarity with photography and videography. 7. Knowledge of visual design and familiarity with visual editing tools. (i.e., Canva, Adobe Ps, Ai, Lr, Final Cut Pro, etc.) will be a plus. 8. 1-2 years of work experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field will be a plus.
