Job Description: - Responsible for viral vector upstream process development and optimization, utilizing single-use bioreactors and advanced techniques. - Stay ahead with the latest scientific advancements and technological trends in upstream process fields to ensure Legend Biotech remains at the forefront of the industry. - Drive innovation, technology development and platform improvement to enhance viral vector productivity, quality, consistency, and manufacturing cost of goods (COGS) reduction. - Execute research timelines to meet program and corporate objectives. - Design, execute, and interpret process development study data to understand the mechanism-of-action and play an active role in subsequent scientific discussions to drive decisions. - Write and review protocols, SOPs, technical reports, regulatory documents, and memos to summarize experiments and investigations. - Make strong strategic and technical contributions to cross functional teams. - Partner with internal cross-functional team members to facilitate technical assessment, technical transfer, and IND filing. - Closely mentor scientists to further develop talent within the group. - Other duties will be assigned, as necessary.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: - Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Immunology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline. - Minimum of 6+ years relevant pharmaceutical industry post-graduation. - Deep expertise in upstream process development and manufacturing of viral vectors (including lentivirus, retrovirus, and adeno-associated virus (AAV) or antibody drugs is required. - Extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or biotechnology with an upstream process development role and an excellent understanding of the theory and practice of upstream process development is required. Experience in downstream process is a plus. - Extensive experience with operating and troubleshooting bioreactors and systems. - Excellent communication skills both in English and Mandarin, detail-oriented organization skills, and team collaboration skills. - Strong ability to edit data, report data, present findings to management is required. - Ability to manage priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced environment to make sure deliverables are achieved in a timely fashion. - A strong track record of scientific accomplishments, including first-author publications, patent applications, and/or presentations at major national meetings, is required. - Proven track record of outstanding management and leadership skills to build and oversee a small, high-performing team (5-10 members). - Occasional domestic or international travel required.
