1. Your Job
1.1 The Portfolio Director Photonics and Semiconductor – China is responsible for the strategic expansion of the company’s Photonics and Semiconductor business in China.
1.2 As a technical and market expert, you are responsible for consulting several departments and management of PI “where to play and how to win” key Photonics and Semiconductor business in this region.
1.3 You will propose how the PI product and technology portfolio needs to develop over time, for which applications, and for which customer needs, to support PI’s growth ambitions.
1.4 You develop actionable business cases that lead the way to PI’s commercial success, and you guide the execution of these business cases.
1.5 You maintain and grow a large network within your region, analyze developments within and provide market intelligence of your business area to support strategic decision making, understand and expand PI’s position in the market’s eco-system, provide market data to substantiate your business cases, and be an ‘ambassador’ for PI on the market.
1.6 The Portfolio Director Photonics and Semiconductor – China is pivotal in ensuring the successful commercialization of the product portfolio and innovations herein for China, while also fostering collaboration and innovation across the global organization.

2. The Team
2.1 You will become part of our global “Market Strategies and Innovations” team, consisting of Global Directors Market Strategies for main segments PI is active in, and Portfolio Directors for specific targeted regions or sub-segments. The team is headed by our Senior VP Market Strategies and Innovations.

3. Your Tasks
3.1 You sustain and build a network within your area, and are able to analyze, visualize, and communicate the short-, mid-, and long-term developments of the Photonics and Semiconductor industry eco-system in China and PI’s competitive position herein.
3.2 You perform market research, build up market intelligence on customer needs and interests, competitor developments, and other players in the eco-system, to be able to define PI’s product-/solution-portfolio functionalities, unique selling points, and value propositions now and in the future. Such portfolios may vary between market-segments in your business area.
3.3 You manage the portfolio(s) by developing actionable business cases in close and regular cooperation with R&D-, Marketing-, Sales-, Operations-, and Service teams; and after approval by executive management, you guide the execution of such business cases including budget control.
3.4 You continuously monitor the product lifecycles, technical- and financial (revenue, profitability, ROI, cost saving) portfolio(s) performance to maximize profitability and market share, and make data-driven decisions to adjust strategies as needed.
3.5 You identify and evaluate potential collaborations that could enhance the product portfolio.
3.6 You guide/support cross-functional teams in the role of ‘internal client’ in development, launch, and training of new products, ensuring alignment with market needs and business goals. You maintain a ‘client-vendor’ type relationship with such cross-functional teams.
3.7 You facilitate clear and timely communications and collaborations between global and regional teams to drive consistency and alignment.
3.8 You regularly hold internal and external presentations on your portfolio as an expert.
3.9 You establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of the portfolio(s), in close cooperation with the Market Strategies and Innovations team, and implement corrective actions/continuous improvement initiatives based on performance analysis.
3.10 You regularly review and report on portfolio performance to senior management and other stakeholders.
3.11 You work closely with your Market Strategies and Innovations team members in order to ensure strategic alignment, especially with the Global Directors Photonics and Semiconductor as well as the Global Portfolio Director – Integrated Photonics.

4. Your Profile
4.1 You have the equivalent of a master's degree or higher in engineering, physics, business administration, or a related discipline, and good knowledge of high-tech engineering.
4.2 You have at least five (5) years functional experience in product management, application development, system architecting, or business development. International experience is a plus.
4.3 A background in technical sales, marketing, or product launches is desirable.
4.4 You have a strong familiarity with at least one of the two business areas: Photonics or Semiconductors.
4.5 You have a structured personality and way of working and good business acumen, and always remain focused on the overall objectives.
4.6 You have excellent communication skills, are confident in public presentations, and have the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
4.7 You master the Mandarin language at technical and business level.
4.8 You are strong in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making.
4.9 You have good leadership and project management skills, preferably in working with cross-functional teams.
4.10 You have a good understanding of product lifecycle management, market analysis, strategic planning, and product management.

5. Other Job Characteristics
5.1 This position reports to the Senior VP Market Strategies and Innovations.
5.2 This is a full-time position and eligible for benefits. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.
5.3 You will follow PI’s legal, administrative, safety, and quality rules and regulations, unless formerly agreed upon otherwise.
5.4 This job description is designed to cover primary activities, duties, or responsibilities. It should be reasonably expected that these may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice due to operational necessity.
5.5 This position requires that you propose and manage a continuous improvement plan with respect to the scope and execution of this position, in close consultation with and approval of the Senior VP Market Strategies and Innovations.
5.6 You have the authority to make decisions regarding business travel, in alignment with business objectives, and in alignment within your team. Significant spending or resource allocation requires supervisor approval. Travel is expected 40% or more of your work time.
