Position Summary: Weissman/Dancewear Solutions is a national Recital Costume/Dancewear catalog/web retailer and manufacturer that is experiencing rapid growth. The Pattern/Technical Design Hybrid’s primary responsibilities include developing/grading patterns and partnering with the St. Louis office and China Vendors on the review and approval of Pre-Production samples (new styles) and Resourced samples (current styles). They must have a strong understanding of fabrics, garment engineering, and product development and a thorough understanding of how patternmaking and technical design support the development process. Regular attendance in the office is a necessary and essential function of this position. Responsibilities: 1.Follow all Weissman policies, principles, and standards for Pattern & Technical Design. This includes company fit, grading, measuring, construction, quality and tolerance standards. 2.Create Initial Pattern in the requested base or photo sample size. This includes applying an initial grade to the pattern so that the requested sample fits to standard. Must use creativity, flexibility, adaptability and initiative to assist in doing what is best for the silhouette in order to provide best fit and best fabric yield, while maintaining design intent. 3. Upon adoption, apply grade so all ordered sizes can be produced. This includes creating multiple size ranges, grading the opposite model to proposed specs, hand grading remaining components as needed, thoroughly checking all specs in relation to the pattern and relaying needed updates to the Technical Designer to ensure the pattern and technical specs match. 4.Evaluate samples for fit, measurements and construction ensuring all garments meet Weissman standards and products are developed consistent with manufacturer capabilities and cost specifications. 5.Initiate and maintain daily communication with vendors and Weissman St. Louis office, ensuring style integrity and quality while responding to any technical/construction questions and communicating required changes. 6.Manage individual fit sessions and communicate changes to vendors. 7.Maintain internal tracking tasks to allow for easily accessible and reportable information. 8.Identify and proactively engage Sr. Patternmaker & Sr. Technical Designer when issues arise. 9.Foster open communication and a team environment with all business partners; including receiving and giving constructive feedback in a professional manner. Qualifications: 1.Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design & Product Development or relevant field. 2.5+ years' experience in patternmaking & technical design, with a thorough understanding of the apparel development and production process. 3.Knit garment experience; dance and/or swimwear experience a plus. 4.Knowledge of production pattern making, grading, spec revisions, pattern corrections, garment construction, sewing, technical sketching, measuring and fitting. 5.Strong organizational skills, self-motivated and adaptable. 6.Fluent in spoken and written Mandarin and English. 7.Excellent written, problem-solving, decision making, and time management skills, with a proven track record of juggling priorities and successfully meeting multiple deadlines. 8.Ability to efficiently work with vendors on patterns, specs and the approval process, clearly communicating pattern and technical information to both vendors and internal partners. 9.Preferred experience with Patternmaking software, preferably Lectra Modaris and PDM/PLM or other software base specification system.
