Job description: Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position to work on the TRopIcal DEep-sea Neutrino Telescope (TRIDENT) experiment. TRIDENT is an ambitious deep-sea neutrino observatory aiming to measure cosmic neutrino events of all flavors and has the potential to discover unresolved high-energy astrophysical neutrino sources.
At TDLI, the selected applicant will have opportunities to collaborate on other experiments.
We welcome candidates of all nationalities. The TDLI fosters an internationalized environment with English as its primary working language. Our institute is dedicated to promoting equal opportunity and diversity in physics. Members of under-represented groups in physics are especially encouraged to apply. The TDLI offers a competitive salary with heavily subsidized housing options, comparable to equivalent positions in the USA.
TRIDENT is a next-generation neutrino telescope, designed to swiftly identify multiple astrophysical neutrino sources upon becoming operational. The experiment will incorporate rapid photosensors and extended waveform readout electronics within a hybrid digital optical module (hDOM). This innovative design aims to notably enhance the angular resolution for high-energy neutrinos and the sensitivity across all neutrino flavors. When fully operational, the TRIDENT array will encompass approximately 1000 strings, monitoring a volume of around 7.5 km^3. This will result in marked improvements in angular resolution for high-energy neutrinos and increased sensitivity for all neutrino flavors.
The group completed the TRIDENT Pathfinder experiment in late 2021, and just published the pathfinder results on Nature Astronomy in October 2023. Strong momentum going forward.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in physics or a related field. Successful applicants are expected to lead various experimental aspects including but not limited to Data Acquisition (DAQ) system, calibration system, detector simulation, reconstruction, trigger algorithms, and data analysis. Specific projects will be discussed and decided based on the applicant's interests and project needs.
The review committee includes Prof. Donglian Xu (TIRDENT, JUNO) Prof. Hualin Mei (TRIDENT) Prof. Xin Xiang (TRIDENT, LZ) We aim to establish TRIDENT as a global collaborative effort, akin to the IceCube collaboration. Although TRIDENT is in its early phase, the core team is strong and moving quickly. There are tremendous opportunities for young professionals to advance their careers by joining the project.
Please send us the following documents with your application: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research statement three letters of reference. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to ask.
