Position Summary: Manage advanced engineering projects from concept through design and testing for electric vehicle battery housing and sub-components.
Responsibilities of Position: 1. Design, develop and validate product supporting OEM customers. 2. Interface with account and platform managers as well as customers to determine product requirements. 3. Establish design parameters to ensure that product design is feasible for manufacturing. 4. Provide direction to designers with consideration for fabrication, processing and assembly of the product. 5. Approve all product-engineering drawings: identify or establish performance and material specifications. 6. Analyze components for relevant failure modes and create formal documentation (DFMEA). 7. Validate all designs and prepare reports summarizing results (e.g., DVP&R). 8. Simplify and standardize current and new designs to maximize economic benefits. 9. Coordinate prototype orders, build and submission. 10. Ensure program objectives are met. 11. Other duties as assigned.
Skill Requirements: 1. Ability to manage program events such that engineering objectives are met. 2. Ability to formulate and implement solutions to design problems. 3. Ability to communicate effectively. 4. Regular and predictable attendance. 5. Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. 6. Proficient in MS Office programs. 7. Experience with large polymer component design and development a plus. 8. Vehicle structures and crash requirement experience is a plus. 9. Familiar with EV vehicle systems and requirements a plus. 10. Hands on prototyping / basic fabrication skills a plus.
Education and Experience Requirements: 1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. 2. 3+ years of experience in engineering, ideally in a global environment. 3. Knowledge of engineering standards such as ISO 26262. 4. Familiarity with automotive products, processes and tools.
Licensing or Special Certification Requirements: 1. Valid passport and driver's license.
Physical Requirements: 1. Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time. 2. Travels to plant, supplier, and customer sites.
Working Conditions: 1. Occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds and frequently carries up to 15 pounds. 2. Maneuvers in, around, and about factory and/or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis. 3. Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting, and bending. Works at telephone answering equipment, design equipment, and at a PC. 4. Works within an vehicle components manufacturing, office, and laboratory setting and is exposed to heat, cold, wet, and fumes/chemicals.
