Responsibilities Lead a 2-10 members team and be responsible for the production of antibody or protein reagents to enable external and internal discovery projects: Purify antibodies or different recombinant protein classes (e.g. secreted, soluble, membrane receptors or protein complex) from mammalian (293/CHO) transient/stable or non-mammalian (insect/e. coli) systems with multiple purification procedures. Characterize protein products using a variety of analytical tools to ensure quality control and proper protein attributes Collaborate with molecular cloning and expression teams to design plasmid vectors and purification strategies based on project needs 2. Project management and Team management: Identify project scopes, conduct literature study, design purification strategies, build timeline, leverage resources and coordinate upstream-downstream works in each protein production project or biologics discovery projects Interface with multiple function groups on project requirements, scheduling, execution, reporting and troubleshooting; ensure timely delivery and present status updates and results at internal and client meetings Supervise, train and coach junior team members Design and draft experimental protocols and SOPs; maintain laboratory notebook to document experiments and findings; take responsibilities of the general operation and maintenance of the equipment in the lab Comply with best laboratory safety practices 3. Be responsible for purification platform development and internal projects: Stay focus on the trends and progresses of protein science related areas; develop and optimize systems, procedures and workflows to improve productivity and/or efficiency; lead internal projects to develop new products and/or new capabilities Qualifications: a ph.D. degree in molecular/cell biology, structural biology, bioengineering, pharmacology or related fields in antibody/recombinant protein generation, previous industrial experience will be a plus. 3+ year of hands-on experience and successful cases in protein production is required Solid knowledge and understanding on protein science, hands-on protein purification and characterization experience with mammalian (293/CHO) and/or non-mammalian (insect/e coli.) systems for antibody/recombinant protein production are required. Hands-on experience in handling difficult proteins (such as inclusion body, protein complex, trans-membrane protein, proteinase, bi-/multi-specific Ab, and instable proteins) is highly desired; protein construct design or structure based sequence design would be a plus. Must be skilled at operating AKTA systems, chromatography purification process (such as affinity chromatography, SEC, IEX and HIC) and analytical instruments like HPLC Extensive knowledge in protein characterization with various analytical techniques, such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, CE-SDS, cIEF, protein sequencing and peptide mapping are highly desired. Extensive experience in molecular cloning and protein expression, hands on experience in operating and maintaining HTP purification systems will be a plus.
