Job summary: Performs necropsy and/or histology tasks on a variety of laboratory animals in compliance with the appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines Monitors animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Health and Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance
Duties and Responsibilities: Trim wet tissues Embed tissues into paraffin Performs duties of necropsy and/or histology Performs necropsy and/or histology study responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned Report all animal care concerns and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, or Associate Degree in Histology, Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology plus twelve months experience; Experience may substitute for education Certification as a Histology Technician by ASCP or an AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable
Required: 2-4 years of related experience Required: Verbal and written communication skills Demonstrates teamwork and leadership skills Data documentation and QC skills Problem solving skills Ability to structure and manage workloads without direct supervision
Working condition Exposure to 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin and other common histology chemicals Work with other potentially hazardous substances not limited to known/potential teratogens or carcinogens and/or radio-labeled test materials Exposure to rodents, rabbits, canines, primates and other common laboratory animals Works within vivarium, histology laboratories, common office areas
Mandatory immunizations and screening as required Overtime and weekend work as required Work requires PPE (personal protective equipment) Position entails repetitive motion Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals
