Business Context and Main Purpose of the Job
Home care cluster design team in Shanghai is responsible for product development and deployment for Unilever Home Care business of North Asia region (including China, TW/HK, Japan and Korea).
This individual will be responsible for product development for home care product (detergent powder, liquid, fabri conditioner, householder care product and bar) for North Asia region. He or she will lead innovation/renovation/value improvement projects, along with miscellaneous product deployment tasks for Home Care business, North Asia.
Main Accountabilities
Key accountabilities are:
61 Mainly support home care product development tasks in traditional & new formats development, including but not limited to new formulation design and multifunctional benefits explore and product mix roll out (50%)
61 Home care products including scent boosters, surface cleaner, dish wash liquid, toilet clean etc.
61 Perform knowledge/expertise based formulation design tasks that are medium to high in complexity (15%)
61 Coordinate project activities and SCS (35%)
Detailed below:
A) Executing routine product development tasks:
61 Sample preparation for tests/evaluations
61 Operate and report values of standard equipment for formulation assessment
61 Support pilot scale up work
61 Do formulation costing
61 Monitor competitor new launches and product analysis.
61 Manage new product specification with specification and MET team
61 Raise clearances such as patent/regulatory/Safety
61 Use LIMS/PLM to set up and manage RM inventory/Sampling/Formulation/Processing/Product Stability database.
B) Performing the following knowledge/expertise based tasks:
61 Design formulation based on North Asia consumer understanding, knowledge of formulation principles, knowledge of competitor formulations, and knowledge of Chinese national standards
61 Assess and analyse product appraisal/storage etc. data
61 Write supplier briefs and communicate with material suppliers to ensure they deliver as per needs
C) Co-ordinating project activities and SCS:
61 Ensure that formulation tasks are executed as per project network timelines
61 Represent product development in project team meetings
61 Support the Technical Project Leader in project management activities & engaging with multiple functions such as brand, finance, Supply Chain
61 Lead low to medium complex project
61 Provide technical expertise to support supply chain trouble shooting

-Regional Technical project leader, processing, CTI, packaging, SEAC, Specification
-Global Technical project leaders and formulation designers
Outside R&D:
Regional Brand Development, Supply Chain, Finance teams

Key Skills
61 Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Sciences/Engineering
61 Ability to manage and coordinate multiple formulations tasks
61 Ability to read into consumer insights and translate them to product development
61 Good team player. Can seamlessly manage multiple interfaces in projects
61 Good communicator in English
Relevant Experience
Essential:
Master or Bachelor with 2-3 years related experience on product development
