Supplier Quality Manager Heavy Industrial Components Location: Shanghai Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) Manager to oversee and manage the quality assurance processes for suppliers of heavy industrial components. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supplier quality management, with expertise in heavy machinery, industrial equipment, or related fields. This role involves ensuring that all components sourced from suppliers meet the highest quality standards, comply with industry regulations, and align with company specifications. The SQE Manager will lead a team of Supplier Quality Engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including procurement, engineering, manufacturing, and logistics to drive continuous improvement in supplier performance. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product integrity, reducing supply chain risks, and enhancing overall operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities: Supplier Quality Management: Develop and implement robust supplier quality management systems (SQMS) to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality components. Conduct regular audits, assessments, and evaluations of supplier capabilities, processes, and quality systems. Collaborate with suppliers to identify and resolve quality issues, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively. Monitor supplier performance metrics (e.g., defect rates, delivery times, compliance) and provide feedback to improve their processes. Leadership & Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of Supplier Quality Engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to achieve departmental goals. Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team by promoting best practices, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing). Ensure alignment between supplier quality objectives and broader organizational goals. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all supplier components meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality specifications (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, API standards). Oversee the qualification and approval process for new suppliers, including capability studies, PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), and article inspections. Establish and maintain documentation for supplier quality agreements, certifications, and non-conformance reports. Risk Management & Problem Solving: Proactively identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions. Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for supplier-related quality issues. Work closely with internal stakeholders to address any quality concerns that arise during production or post-delivery. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with procurement to negotiate quality terms and conditions in supplier contracts. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure design requirements are clearly communicated to suppliers and that they are capable of meeting these specifications. Engage with manufacturing and operations teams to resolve supplier-related issues impacting production schedules. Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead initiatives to enhance supplier performance through training programs, workshops, and joint improvement projects. Implement advanced quality tools and techniques (e.g., statistical process control, FMEA, APQP) to drive long-term improvements in supplier quality. Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to supplier quality, presenting findings to senior leadership on a regular basis. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field). A Master’s degree is a plus. Professional certifications such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), Six Sigma Black Belt, or equivalent are highly desirable. Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in supplier quality management, preferably in heavy industrial components, machinery, or equipment manufacturing. Prior experience leading a team of quality engineers or managing supplier relationships in a similar capacity. Strong understanding of quality management systems (QMS), regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, API), and industry-specific requirements. Skills: In-depth knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and techniques (e.g., SPC, FMEA, 8D, APQP). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making. Proficiency in using quality management software (e.g., SAP, QMS platforms) and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed to conduct supplier audits and site visits. Preferred Attributes: Demonstrated experience working with global suppliers and managing international supply chains. Knowledge of heavy industrial components such as gears, bearings, castings, forgings, or hydraulic systems. Experience in industries such as oil & gas, mining, construction equipment, or power generation is a significant advantage.
