The school will follow an international curriculum throughout, the Cambridge Pathway, leading to IGCSE and A Levels. However, the Grades 1-8 curriculum will be supplemented by Chinese language and humanities, and Chinese (Shanghai) mathematics. All students will experience a rich variety of co- curricular opportunities and be supported by pastoral care of the highest standard, all of which are essential to a truly holistic and inclusive education.
Science and technology will be a very important part of the curriculum with extra activities, clubs and research projects also coming into our co-curricular provision. The lab technicians will benefit from having new, purpose-built labs and prep rooms to work in. For the first year, at least, student numbers will be quite small and we shall be building up our essential equipment for the future. We are starting from scratch which makes this a very interesting project to be part of. Whilst the future will bring more specialism, especially when we introduce A Level in 2023, initially we shall be asking technicians, like teachers, to work across the three main scientific disciplines and probably beyond to link with other subject areas, such as Design and Technology. This fully supports our fully integrated STEAM philosophy that science has no boundaries and is part of everyday life.
The principal purpose of the position is to support the teachers by preparing equipment for practical lessons and managing the laboratories, workshops and prep rooms. The more specific details listed below are far from exclusive but give a good idea of the work.
