The Bose Operations Center (BOC) component engineer will be a senior level electrical engineer with a background in the application of a variety of types of electronic and electro-mechanical components and reliability engineering disciplines towards robust product design. The primary responsibilities for this position include: 61 To provide component engineering technical expertise to the BOC-based development teams, working with our outsourced development suppliers in the region, to ensure that all key electronic components are selected from qualified suppliers and meet the Bose standards for quality and reliability in their intended application. 61 Perform component and subsystem level evaluations, analysis and testing as needed to validate the quality of the design, with enough margin, and to discover and mitigate any component risks during product development. Make recommendations for alternative components as needed. 61 Review and assess all component level procurement documentation to make sure all specifications are complete and consistent. 61 Working with the rest of the CRE team in Framingham, perform technical supplier evaluations and on-site reviews as needed to enhance the supplier selection process for electronic components and subsystems. Here are more specific job details and tasks for this position: 61 Evaluate component suppliers’ qualification processes and analyze qualification data against Bose specifications. 61 Work with our key outsourced suppliers to improve their overall component engineering capabilities (and for their suppliers) 61 Assess component performance over environmental conditions to de-rating requirements, to ensure their suitability for Bose’s product application. Drive component or application changes as required. 61 Review part procurement drawings to ensure components are correctly specified. Make modifications as required. 61 Lead specific component or subsystem evaluations and failure analysis including electrical test, life test, temperature cycling / shock, highly accelerated stress test, and destructive physical analysis of parts. 61 Support development, manufacturing, and field failure investigations of components and recommend any product improvements for reliability. Develop effective containment measures (including screening or burn-in) to reduce early life failures and other component failures. 61 Recommend enhancements to component selection, design methodologies, and manufacturing practices to improve reliability of current and future products. 61 Perform worst case and other data analysis on critical new electronic designs. 61 Lead technical component supplier evaluations and perform technical audits during supplier evaluation trips. 61 Produce technical reports and lessons learned artifacts that document specific findings that are available to be deployed across engineering to avoid component-related repeat problems. 61 Recommend alternative sources of supply; maintain awareness of supply base. 61 Work with selected outsourced development suppliers (ODM or CM) to enhance their capabilities in component engineering techniques and methods. Here are the education and experience requirements that the job candidates must meet: 61 BS or MS degree in electrical engineering or related discipline with more than 5 years related work experience. 61 Experience with all types of electronic and electromechanical components, including integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers, connectors, motors, relays, switches, displays and cables. 61 Strong circuit analysis skills (analog and digital) including electromechanical and mechanical integration of electronic circuits. 61 Excellent verbal and written communication ability in both Chinese and English (must be bi-lingual). 61 Demonstrated experience working on a team. Here are additional desirable skills for the job: 61 Statistical Analysis skills, including the ability to define test sample sizes based on risk and desired level of statistical confidence and effectiveness. 61 Direct experience as an electronics component engineer 61 Proficiency with Excel, Power Point, Word and Mini-tab. 61 Direct experience in reliability test design, including environmental, dynamics, material properties, and accelerated test methods. 61 Hands-on experience in designing, installing, troubleshooting or repairing audio or other electronic systems. 61 Knowledge or experience with quality management systems including lean methodologies, six-sigma, and structured problem-solving methods
