Responsibilities: - Lead design and qualification of new cell technology platforms by working across cell suppliers to adapt their technologies into a cell design that represents the needs across multiple Microsoft programs. - Drive new technology development with cell suppliers. - Using quality tools, resolves process capabilities, summarizes design qualification data, and determines acceptability for production ramp - Investigate root cause in battery performance during qualification - Develop/Evaluate promising new battery materials and technologies - Design custom battery cells for new programs - Coach and Mentor other engineers in the battery sciences - Foster university and startup relationships to provide access and insight into advanced battery technologies
Minimum requirements: - MS in Material Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar; PhD desired. -2+ years’ experience developing cells for consumer products or similar - Demonstrated capability in cell design and deep understanding of associated tradeoffs - Proficiency with multi-cell battery pack design - Proficiency with battery test systems and methods - Experienced in working with external vendors and contractors to develop and qualify batteries. - Experience translating system-level requirements into component-level requirements - Technical drive and curiosity for understanding all aspects of battery cell and pack design and manufacturing - Passion for improving processes, sharing with others, and learning from others
