Position : The Lead Engineer - NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) position is reporting to Product Development & Engineering in Shen Zhen. This role is responsible for leading acoustics engineering, sound and vibration characterization, and abatement in the design and application of BISSELL products like vacuum cleaners, floor care, carpet cleanner etc.. This role will serve as the shared technology expert and outreach among BISSELL’s Global Product Development centers while building a body of knowledge and practice among the global product development engineering community. The position will be involved in facilitating assessments, investigation of noise and vibration design related aspects, and providing design guidance to ensure product robustness, regulatory compliance, and customer acceptance. Individual will work to minimize noise and optimize the sound emission performance of new BISSELL products and components Functions/Responsibilities: This position is directly or indirectly responsible for the following pertaining to the development and application of sound and vibration design principles within the product development process: 61 Lead the research, development, and documentation of sound and vibration principles as they apply to BISSELL’s products- Integrate said principles into design practice via established partnerships with Development Engineers. 61 Develop noise abatement technologies and ensure low noise functionality of new products, enhancements of existing products and proof-of-concept (POC) demonstrations. 61 Technical subject matter expert for sound and vibration pertaining to BISSELL’s entire product portfolio. 61 Develop methods of test, coordinate the implementation of experiments, evaluate test results, and prepare written reports of research findings. 61 Noise control – Interrogate and model source(s) of the noise, apply principles and attributes in controlling path of noise, and conceptualize means to inhibit and/or isolate design noise emittance. 61 Vibration and structural acoustics – Characterization and design of structures to withstand, alter, or isolate vibrations caused by inherent system mechanical behaviors, self-excited multi-physics phenomena, and other typical external factors or a combination of factors. 61 Translate customer wants, needs, desires or feedback studies into appropriate noise level and vibration objectives for the purpose of ensuring product robustness and customer perception. 61 Apply codes and standards specific to noise and vibration limits in the assessment of design compliance and guidance to team product development. 61 Periodically conduct knowledge sharing and best practices learning sessions in the advancement of development team skills. Establish strong relationships and open communication channels with key product development category leaders, such that S&V research programs support future product roadmaps. 61 Conceptualize and explore opportunities for cost reduction and/or quality improvement initiatives related to product noise and vibration. 61 Apply wide range of noise measurement tools to evaluate noise transmission, reverberation, reflection, diffusion, absorption, vibration, and other noise metrics to provide accurate data to diagnose actual acoustics issues—as well as predictive acoustical modeling to assess potential noise control issues. 61 Perform noise source localization and transfer path analysis to quantify and rank contributions from rotating machinery components. 61 Oversee work performed by contracted outside laboratory services ensuring the proper execution of test procedures and protocols. 61 Lead the planning, development, and analysis of controlled experiments (DOE), and other systematic problem-solving tools relating to Data Analysis, for the purposes of distilling complex technical knowledge towards useful application in support of GPD activities. Master prefered 61 Specific concentration: Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive Engineering 61 Experience level: 7+ years in consumer products or automotive industry PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: 61 5+ years of practical experience in the analysis, modeling, and applied principles of acoustics and vibrations in product design applications 61 Proven experience in the design, analysis, implementation, and qualification of solutions to acoustics and vibrations related design challenges in a business-oriented setting. 61 Experience at high volume, consumer products, company 61 Proficiency in NVH testing required with LMS Test Lab or Head Acoustic Artemis experience preferred. 61 Electromagnetic noise (acoustic) simulation and test experience preferred. 61 Working knowledge of rotating electrical machines preferred 61 Knowledge of vibration theory and structural mechanics 61 Practical experience with Acoustic Materials and Structural Dynamics 61 Experience leading and participating on global teams preferred. 61 High level knowledge in design, analysis, and application of acoustics and vibrations specific modelling tools. 61 Proficient in statistical analysis of raw data sets utilizing systematic problem-solving tools. Lean Product Development experience and Six Sigma certification highly preferred.
