Purpose of Job 61 The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) plays a crucial role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Reporting to the Director of Learning Support and Learning Support Teacher, the LSA is responsible for providing tailored assistance to students with diverse learning needs. This role involves collaborating with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to implement effective strategies that enhance student engagement, academic achievement, and overall well-being. The LSA is dedicated to promoting a positive and accessible educational experience for targeted students, ensuring they have the necessary support to reach their full potential. Duties and Responsibilities Overall Responsibilities Support for children’s learning: Following work plans defined by the Learning Support Team and teaching team, provide direct support for the learning of individual targeted students or groups of students, to achieve defined progression targets in a child’s learning plan and in-class plans through: 61 Provide personalised student support by individual interventions or small group settings. (Pull in or pull out.) 61 Monitor and report on student progress to the Learning Support Team. 61 Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs). 61 Support classroom activities and adapt materials to meet individual student needs. 61 Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment. 61 Track, monitor, assess and support pupils with additional needs or that are not meeting their potential/age expectations or require specialist assistance to access the curriculum. 61 A proficiency in improving basic numeracy and specialist skills in literacy that will enable you to work with targeted individuals. 61 Differentiate teaching methods and use multi-sensory teaching methods to enable students to access the curriculum. Support the learning environment: Create work plans based on the guidance of teaching staff. Prepare, organise, store, retrieve, and display materials, completed work, equipment, project work, and assignment documents to support an effective learning environment as directed by the teacher or learning support team. 61 Promote the required standards of achievement and performance, including feedback through structured assessment, for individuals and groups within the classroom. 61 Support the development of continuous improvement in both personal performances in the job and the work of the team. 61 Assist in the development, monitoring, reviewing and progression of student’s learning plans. 61 Support invigilation and assessment processes, following procedures and under supervision. 61 Assist in the supervision of the work of support staff colleagues/placement students, as required and defined by the line manager, to develop continuity and consistency in the work of the support team which achieves the attainment of standards in learning progress by the school.
General 61 Work in partnership with the Learning Support Team, Class Teachers and Specialist Teachers to support the delivery of effective and high-quality teaching and learning opportunities to pupils within classroom environments. 61 Act as a role model in all areas of the curriculum and wider school environment, setting high expectations for pupils, colleagues and parents. 61 Contribute to the School’s aims and ethos. 61 If required to teach classes temporarily as part of the cover schedule as directed by Director of Learning Support. 61 Maintain positive relationships with parents and the wider community, ensuring that the relevant staff are informed of any concerns. 61 Attend staff meetings/briefings and other meetings with colleagues as required. 61 Carry out additional duties, necessary for the efficient running of the School such as playtime/lunchtime supervision, as required. 61 Effective use of ICT and technology. 61 Attend additional School activities, such as School productions, Parents’ Evenings, School trips and House events. 61 Be punctual, smartly and appropriately dressed, and to behave in such a manner as is appropriate in line with the requirements laid out in our Staff Code of Conduct. Curriculum Matters 61 Experience within KS1 and KS2 curriculum. With potential to support KS3 students. 61 Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for pupils and help to monitor their progress. 61 Share or contribute to reporting progress to parents as well as assisting the Learning Support Team and Teachers in writing formal end of term reports. 61 Ability to document findings in appropriate format. Ability to communicate and relate to staff, students and parents alike. 61 Ability to work constructively as part of the Learning Support Team. Welfare and Discipline Matters 61 Ensure the safety and security of the children at all times and to bring to the attention of the senior staff any matters concerning the wellbeing of the children. 61 Provide the necessary support and pastoral care for pupils inside and outside the classroom.
Extra-Curricular Activities 61 Supervise and coach students in the after-school activities programme and the extra-curricular sports and performing arts programmes, if required. 61 Lead at least two Harrow Diploma Activities (HDA’s) per week in an area of your strength. Requirements Education, Training and Qualifications 61 Bachelor or above degree. 61 Chinese teaching certificate/credential. Knowledge and Experience 61 Experience of working effectively supporting students with learning support needs. 61 Experience of working with students with English as an Additional Language. 61 Adapt schemes of work to support the needs of students with additional learning needs. 61 Understanding of the expectations of International schools. 61 High Level of spoken and written English. 61 Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children. 61 Effective communication and engagement with children and their families.
