Responsibilities 1. Direction and overall responsibility for technical aspects of the product and project. 2. Design plastic parts for injection molding. 3. Integration of electronic and electromechanical components 4. Specify and select purchased components. 5. Development of comprehensive test plans. 6. Set clear and thorough part, material, and overall product specifications. 7. Technical definition of product and feasibility studies 8. Analysis of test results and the understanding of performance. 9. Coaching, mentoring and possible supervision of junior engineers, designers, and co-ops. 10. Provide technical information about the project to others in the company. 11. Recommend and participate in the improvement of methods, equipment, staffing. 12. Responsible for completeness, correctness and accuracy of CAD data 13. Estimate technical project resources requirements and project expenses 14. May be required to perform other duties as assigned Environment 1. Degree minimum: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering Specific concentration: 1. Mechanical engineering 2. Strength in engineering fundamentals 3. Analytical approach to problems 4. Ability to understand voice of consumer needs and integrate these into product specs 5. Basic personal computer skills 6. Electromechanical consumer products 7. UL approved products 8. Test development and results analysis 9. Project scheduling and tracking 10. Plastic part design 11. Team environment Experience level: 5+ years of experience in product development
SPECIALIZED TRAINING/EDUCATION PREFERRED 1. 3D CAD and geometric dimensioning 2. Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) 3. Fluid or air moving products 4. Design for Assembly Analysis (DFA) 5. Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA, DFMEA) 6. Project management 7. Design of Experiments (DoE, Taguchi) 8. Reading and comprehension of utility patents 9.
