Position Overview The School of Advanced Technology (SAT) was created from a merger of the former Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), which was then split into five departments in 2019. It includes Department of Communications and Networking (CAN), Department of Computing (CPT), Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Department of Intelligent Science (INT) and Department of Mechatronics and Robotics (MEC). The position is responsible for the Lab teaching related issues for undergraduate students and chemical related Laboratory management work such as equipment materials purchasing and management, Laboratory information statistics, new lab construction or lab transformation, Lab Visit and Health & Safety issues. Position A: Lab Technician Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Provide instrumental technical support and teaching assistance in some lab modules, and support students in their teaching and research activities in the laboratory. 2. Manage school chemistry-related laboratories, including daily administrative work, and coordinate to resolve issues related to laboratory environments and facilities. 3. Be responsible for the management of all equipment in chemistry-related laboratories, including conducting routine inspections of equipment operation status, ensuring that equipment is in good working condition, and promptly identifying and addressing malfunctions. 4. Provide technical support for the basic operation, daily maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment to users of clean rooms, and organize regular equipment-related training sessions. 5. Analyze equipment operation data, identify potential problems, propose and implement improvement measures to enhance equipment efficiency and reliability, and optimize equipment management processes. 6. Fulfill the responsibilities of a member of school laboratory health and safety committee. 7. Support the selection and purchase of consumables or equipment for school laboratories. 8. Support fixed asset management. 9. Conduct daily monitoring and maintenance of equipment status/information within the LIMS (Laboratory Instrument Management System). 10. Support the information statistics and documentation management of the equipment, including the creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment. 11. Perform other duties defined by the school technical manager commensurate with the job grade and position, including supporting other colleagues in the school as required, such as during peak work periods, holidays, sick leave, etc.
Qualifications:
1. Master degree in electronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automation, or related fields. 2. Bachelor degree in electronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automation, or related fields, and possess additional qualifications or relevant work experience. 3. Priority will be given to candidates who are familiar with the operating principles, standard operating procedures, and safety regulations of clean rooms, as well as the performance characteristics, operation methods, and maintenance processes of various equipment within clean rooms, and are able to independently perform routine inspections, fault diagnosis, and simple repairs of the equipment. 4. Possess certain equipment maintenance and management capabilities; experience in the maintenance and daily management of equipment related to grinding/cleaning/etching/coating processes is a plus. 5. Possess basic safety management capabilities, including familiarity with the safety management system and operating procedures of clean rooms, the ability to identify potential safety hazards and take effective preventive measures, as well as possess certain emergency response capabilities, being able to respond quickly and properly in emergency situations. 6. Have good teamwork and interpersonal communication skills. 7. Have good English writing skills. 8. Be reliable in work and able to complete tasks on time with quality. 9. Be independent and proactive in completing work tasks.
Positions B: Lab Technician Roles & Responsibilities: 1. Provide instrument technical support and teaching assistance in some lab sessions and support student learning in laboratory, research, workshop, or studio activities. 2. Responsible for the daily and safety management of the labs related to mechanical and power electronics directions within school and deal with the issues related to laboratory environments, facilities, and access. 3. Support administrative work such as document management for laboratories related to mechanical and power electronics directions within the school. 4. To act as a member of Lab Health and Safety Team in school. 5. To select and purchase Lab consumables/equipment for the school’s laboratories. 6. Assist in the management of designated laboratory facilities, consumables and equipment. 7. To train or instruct other staff in the use of equipment and software as required and within the limits of technical competence. 8. To support the fixed asset management. 9. To monitor and maintain the equipment status/information in LIMS system regularly for designated laboratories. 10. Other duties commensurate with the grade and position as defined by the School technical Manager.
Qualifications: 1. Master's degree in electronics and electrical engineering, power electronics, mechanical engineering, or related fields. 2. Bachelor's degree in electronics and electrical engineering, power electronics, mechanical engineering, or related fields is also acceptable with strong evidence of other qualifications or related working experience. 3. Ability to communicate in both Chinese and English. 4. Have a basic knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering, able to understand and apply circuit principles, and the characteristics of electronic components; 5. Possess fundamental knowledge in mechanical principles, mechanism design, and material mechanics, with a certain understanding of the structures of small robots and robotic arms. Candidates with the ability to perform simple maintenance and adjustments are preferred; 6. Familiarity with PLC programming and the ability to write programs to control small robots and robotic arms to complete specific experimental tasks is preferred; 7. Experience in equipment management is preferred; 8. Proficient in electrical safety regulations to ensure the safety of electricity usage during experimental processes. 9. A good team player with strong interpersonal skills. 10. Dependability, reliability and ability to produce work of high quality in time. 11. Independent and proactive in implementing the duties.
Position C:Lab Technician Responsibilities: 1.To provide the preparation and teaching assistance in the lab, including lab training and supervision for undergraduate students. 2.To assist in the maintenance and repairing of instrumentation and equipment in the school laboratories. 3.To select and purchase new Lab materials/equipment for the school’s laboratories. 4.To train or instruct other staff in the use of equipment and software as required and within the limits of technical competence. 5.To support the fixed asset management. 6.To act as a member of Lab Health and Safety Team in school. 7.To support the Lab daily management and new lab construction. 8.To liaise with faculty/University staff and bodies outside to resolve problems. 9.Other duties commensurate with the grade and position as defined by the School technical Manager including support to other colleagues in the University when required, such as during times of peak workflow, holidays, sickness, etc. Qualifications : 1.Master Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) or Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering related field. 2.Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Mechanical or Chemistry or safety related field is also acceptable with strong evidence of other qualifications or related working experience. 3.Ability to communicate in English and Chinese; 4.Have an in-depth understanding of interdisciplinary subjects such as electronics, computers, biomedical engineering, materials engineering, and chemical engineering; 5.An understanding of the basic technical and scientific principles necessary for the work; 6.Knowledge of Origin, Solidworks, AutoCAD, etc. software; 7.Knowledge of Windows in a networking environment and other Microsoft applications; 8.Knowledge of basic lab skills such as wet experiments (chemical synthesis) and dry experiments (mechanical assembly) ; 9.Knowledge of equipment/safety management. 10.Knowledge of cross-disciplinary working environments is preferred.
