About Role We are seeking a collaborative educator who is committed to understanding and supporting each student on their college and career readiness journey. This wide-ranging position includes group and individual work, parent communication, supporting with writing and application preparation, in line with the four-year holistic ‘Dulwich Success Plan’. The postholder will be a full member of the academic faculty, serving as a form tutor and mentor, leading a Co-curricular activity, performing duties as required of academic faculty, joining trips local/overseas (which may take place outside term time) and being involved with school and student events and professional learning.
Duties The University and Careers Counsellor is responsible for administering all aspects of the college search and admissions process. They will be expected to: 1. Help students and families aspire realistically and choose their destination wisely 2. Do all that they legitimately and honestly can to ensure each student’s college application is successful 3. Represent the school in the best possible light and boost its profile in the higher education community
Qualification and Skills 1. A Bachelor’s degree or higher. 2. Familiarity with and understanding of recent developments in higher education 3. Relevant experience in an international school setting 4. Complete fluency in English (equivalent to mother tongue) 5. Technologically competent in basic resources and programmes: MS Office tools, Teams, etc. 6. Understanding of and experience working with non-native English-speaking students and parents
Responsibilities 1. Educate students and parents about universities, academic majors & programmes, the admissions process, trends, procedures, and admission testing. 2. Provide an individualized counselling service for students in Year 10 – Year 13 which should include advice on academic pathways. 3. Encourage admissions representatives to visit the campus and facilitating meetings between university representatives and our students. 4. Liaise with the counsellors’ administrator to maintain accurate and up to date records on students, including external exam results, internal Progress Report data and transcripts. 5. Write an official school recommendation or reference for each Year 13 student in the caseload. 6. Contribute to the delivery of careers counselling curriculum as needed. 7. Assist in coordinating Focus Week for Year 13 and Careers Day for Years 10-13. 8. Keep teachers informed of the university application process and the tasks expected of them. 9. Support students with their online application process and applications and preparation for universities worldwide. 10.Support the clearing and final admissions process for students during the summer. 11.Participate in the events and programming for students’ & parents’ activities or evening events. 12.Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of admission decisions, statistics, and relevant data. 13.Liaise with University Counsellors from across the Dulwich network to improve provision and best practices across the Dulwich group 14.Contribute fully to the wider life of the school, which may involve activities outside the regular school day.
