Summary:
This position is responsible for the engineering and design content of projects for all assigned accounts. They will act as the primary liaison with the customer for resolution of technical matters and the development of products for customer projects by interpreting specifications, design requirements and developing those into an engineered solution. They will apply advanced knowledge of hydrodynamic bearing design, obtained through education and work experience and may also be recognized as a subject matter expert in this field. Problems faced will tend to be difficult and often complex; projects will be managed with limited oversight from the manager. They will assist / instruct Designers and check assembly drawings for accuracy of design intent and information. They will assist Application Engineers with advanced analysis techniques and review their work when required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
61 Prepare engineering proposals for new projects; identify requirements, analyze product designs, interpret results and determine optimum solution to the customers’ problem
61 Develop close working relationships with key customers’ technical contacts, ensuring that business opportunities are recognized and responded to appropriately at an early stage. Significant customer interaction with respect to the engineering and management of projects, pre and post contract, for assigned accounts.
61 Follow up open proposals and report status on a regular and timely basis. Present in weekly department meetings, reporting on business conditions and issues with customers.
61 Build an understanding of competitor solutions, recommend and implement actions as necessary to defend and grow accounts.
61 Build and maintain an understanding of our manufacturing capabilities and standard design practices sufficient to produce the best-cost alternative for the customer and the company.
61 Facilitate and manage customer meetings with pre-set agenda outlining what you expect to achieve, followed by trip report sharing knowledge, and actions items clearly defined with time frame for completion.
61 Respond to customer concerns and resolve any technical problems to ensure that company products are working effectively, and the customer is satisfied with the service provided. Provide feedback to relevant company departments to determine root cause / corrective and preventive actions.
61 Support development of advanced analysis techniques (FEA, CFD, rotordynamics, etc) and perform as required. Support Applications Engineers on said techniques and/or coordinate 3rd party resources.
61 Support the New Product Development team in creating analytical methods for new products and product enhancements and document standard work processes, procedures and tools.
61 Interpret designs, assist / instruct Designers, perform all engineering calculations, examine specifications, expedite and process engineering changes.
61 Check general arrangement contract drawings for accuracy of dimension and detail and manage their subsequent delivery / approval with customers.
61 Ensure effective liaison within the Engineering group to build and maintain consistently high engineering standards and to drive relevant product development
61 Support engineering process development and design for manufacturability efforts through specific assignments as directed by Engineering Management
61 Lead fluid film bearing training seminars at customer and/or internal sites as needed and be able to fine-tune the training to the specific needs of the audience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
61 Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical (or Aerospace) Engineering, at least 3 years in the engineering or design of fluid film bearings with knowledge in rotor dynamics and rotating equipment. Highly desirable - PhD related to fluid film bearings / rotating equipment - including experience applying FEA, CFD and rotor dynamic analysis.
61 People who have experience of working with the following types of equipment are likely to be of particular interest: Pumps, compressors, gearboxes, turbines, wind turbines, generators and motors. Likewise, experience working in the following industries will receive special consideration: Renewable Energy (Wind, Solar and Hydro), Conventional Power Generation, Natural Gas Transmission, Nuclear and Marine Propulsion.
Mathematical Skills:
61 Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, structural and fluid dynamics, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Computer Skills:
61 Proficiency with MSOffice and Windows operating systems is expected. Experience with using simulation software, preferably ANSYS and MATLAB. Working knowledge of CAD, preferably AutoCAD.
Reasoning ability:
61 Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Language Skills:
61 Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, specifications and governmental regulations. Ability to read drawings and prepare graphs, tables, and text for final reports and to write procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, peers, and the general public.
61 Good written / verbal Mandarin and English skills required.
Working Conditions:
61 Must be willing to travel to customers, end users, conferences and other DPC sites (15-20%)
