The technician in the Design Fab Lab is responsible for internal support to academic staff and students in the Department of Architecture and Industry Design with responsibilities including:
Teaching Assistance 61 To supervise students working in the timber workshop and to ensure the workshop health & safety policy is adhered to at all times
61 To aid students with the utilization of wood working machines and give advice and necessary help to students on materials and fabrication process. Workshop management 61 To operate equipment in the timber workshop of Design Fab Lab 61 To clean and maintain the space and all the equipment in the workshop and keep a clean and tidy working environment 61 To assist with the procurement of consumables and budget drafting of the workshop Project Support 61 To generally support Lab Manager and collaborate with the technical team in the smooth running and on-going successful development of the Design Fab Lab 61 To support in school and departmental meetings, activities, and events 61 To acquire skills and develop good practice for creating appropriate models using equipment and materials 61 To deliver training in terms of using equipment, selecting materials, Health & Safety policy to both students and staff 61 To assist lab manager with the space planning, asset management, and Health & Safety in the design studios used by students 61 To undertake other work of the department designated by the Lab Manager
61 Experience of carpentry work or as a carpenter in the industry is essential; 61 Experience in using wood-working machinery, e.g, large bench saw, large band saw, thicknesser, sanding machine, drilling machine and so on is essential; 61 Strong practical ability and team work spirit; 61 English skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening are preferred; 61 College degree or above is preferred, better majoring in Furniture, Design or relative subjects or with any other technical formation; 61 Knowledge and skills of standard office software packages are preferred;
