Develop and implement lean strategies to optimize operational processes across multiple departments. Map current processes, identify bottlenecks, and lead the development of future-state process designs. Introduce and teach lean tools such as value-stream mapping, 5S, kanban systems, and root-cause analysis to employees at all levels. Conduct regular training sessions and workshops to ensure understanding and adoption of lean principles.
Continuous Improvement Projects Start, plan, and complete continuous improvement projects. Establish clear project goals, timelines, and success metrics. Track project progress, address issues, and provide regular updates to management. Encourage and assist employees in identifying improvement opportunities. Facilitate the development and implementation of employee-generated improvement ideas, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Data Collection and Analysis Collect pertinent data on process performance, productivity, and quality. Analyze data to pinpoint trends, areas for enhancement, and potential cost reductions. Apply statistical tools and techniques to derive significant conclusions. Establish and update performance dashboards to monitor important metrics linked to lean and continuous improvement efforts. Deliver routine reports to management, showcasing accomplishments, obstacles, and suggestions.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration Work closely with various departments, such as production, R&D, quality control, and supply chain, to ensure the smooth implementation of lean and continuous improvement initiatives. Build strong relationships with departmental leaders and team members to inspire change. Participate in cross-functional teams to address complex business problems. Contribute lean expertise and facilitate communication to achieve common goals.
Standardization and Documentation Develop and maintain standardized work procedures to ensure consistent and efficient operations. Review and update existing procedures as needed to incorporate improvements. Document all lean and continuous improvement activities, including project plans, implementation details, and results. Create a knowledge base that can be shared across the organization for future reference.
Direct Material Saving Projects Develop and complete comprehensive direct material saving strategies. Collaborate with procurement, production, and R&D teams to find opportunities for reducing direct material costs without compromising product quality. Provide data-driven insights to the procurement team during supplier negotiations. Review product designs for seeing opportunities to simplify components, reduce material usage, or substitute high-cost materials with more cost-effective alternatives. Apply lean tools and techniques to streamline processes, minimize scrap, and improve material utilization. Establish critical metrics to measure the success of direct material saving initiatives. Track and report on material cost savings, waste reduction, and other important metrics on a regular basis.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus. Minimum of 3 years of experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or a related field. Experience in the pharmaceutical or scientific instruments industry is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of lean principles and tools, and demonstrated experience in implementing lean initiatives. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data to drive decision-making. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis, and project management software.
