61 As assigned, write, edit and/or proofread materials in English including (but not limited to) stories and articles, brochures and prospectuses, student recruitment campaigns, newsletters, media releases, social media posts, web content, event promotion, advertising, briefings, backgrounders, biographies, executive talking points, video scripts, speeches, plans and reports; 61 Develop and research story ideas for publication, which may include major feature stories or articles, long form, and multi-source stories with high visibility on complex or technical topics; 61 Edit and/or proofread original material developed by others for use in the website, news reports or any other publications noted above while ensuring accuracy, coherent messaging and a consistent voice; 61 Build and maintain a sound general knowledge of XJTLU academic and campus life, campaigns and issues in order to help respond effectively to both internal and external enquiries; 61 Conduct interviews with sources, perform research and/or fact-check as needed; maintain regular contacts with key sources to identify story themes; 61 Work efficiently and effectively within deadlines; 61 Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
61 Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, public relations, English or a related field (masters degree is preferred); 61 Native English speaker; written fluency in additional languages is a plus; 61 Three or more years of professional writing experience in a media organisation, agency environment and/or a corporate or institutional setting preferred; 61 Experience writing about education, research, business and/or technical fields such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or architecture is a plus; 61 Demonstrated knowledge of professional-level concept development, research, and copywriting; ability to edit stories for both style and substance; 61 Knowledge of BBC/AP Stylebook or equivalent is a plus; 61 Ability to synthesise and coordinate materials from multiple resources; 61 Understanding of the principles, terminology, procedures, and best practices of marketing communications, public relations, and editorial content; 61 Strong research and analytical skills; 61 Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a variety of other computer- and internet-based tools for communication, analysis and networking; 61 Working knowledge of web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends; 61 Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours including evenings or weekends; ability to travel occasionally on department business.
