Position Overview: The International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is one of the world’s few “triple-crown” business schools, holding AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accreditations. The Trading Floor (TF) provides state-of-the-art facilities to support teaching and research in finance, analytics and fintech. We are seeking a proactive Lab Technician who will ensure the smooth operation of the computing labs and ticker system, support undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral teaching, and help drive faculty research projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technology planning – identify hardware and software needs for teaching and research; assisting the director to prepare justification documents. 2. Budget & procurement – assisting trading floor in data collection for budget estimation and justification, coordinate tenders, and liaise with Finance on purchasing. 3. System deployment – install, configure and update specialist software (e.g., Stata, IBM SPSS, Bloomberg) and associated hardware. 4. Lab administration – maintain the asset inventory, enforce safety protocols, and manage user access and remote-learning platforms. 5. Operational support – provide frontline IT troubleshooting, schedule preventive maintenance, and conduct daily checks on the ticker system; on-site technical assistance to faculty and students; write technical guidelines and QA for software and hardware usage to support teaching and research. 6. Vendor coordination – supervise third-party contractors for warranty repairs, upgrades and license renewals. 7. Timetabling & booking – allocate lab space across departments and maintain the room-booking system. 8. Student-assistant management – train and assist with the work shift scheduling for student assistants to support daily lab operations. 9. Event hosting & support –provide on-site technical support for all events held in the Trading Floor (e.g., guest lectures, trading competitions, external visits). 10. Collaboration – work closely with academic staff on new technology initiatives and cross-unit projects. 11. Other – perform duties commensurate with the role as assigned by the line manager or the TF director, particularly during peak periods or staff absences.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
1. Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field. 2. ≥ 1 year relevant experience; previous work in a higher-education lab environment is preferred. 3. Hands-on knowledge of Windows/Linux administration, data analysis with Python and at least two of the following: Wind, SPSS, Bloomberg, MATLAB, and R. 4. Strong problem-solving skills and customer-service orientation; fluency in both English and Chinese. 5. Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and within a team.
