Job Summary: As a Design Engineer - Drivetrain at Caterpillar, you will develop integrated drivetrain for construction and mining equipment. Area of responsibility include drivetrain system and components design, development, validation and testing in new products, continuous improvement and cost reduction projects, key areas include transmission, torque converter, axle, etc. You will collaborate with global cross function team of engineering, operations and purchasing around. You will continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology. What You Will Do: Drivetrain system and component design and development, technical support for manufacturing and testing Collaborating with functional areas (marketing, purchasing, manufacturing etc.) to understand customer voice, prepare and evaluate design concepts, complete feasibility studies and provide design solutions to meet the requirements Perform detail design (2D/3D), analysis/simulation, lead system and component design reviews Follow and update designs through build, test and validation, collaborate with global operations, purchasing and the supply base to meet product and design cost targets. Resolves issues regarding the manufacturing or building sequences. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness. Work with cross functional teams to support parts development, supplier process and quality control Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement. Planning and improving engineering procedures and operations to make the product or process more reliable, efficient and cost-effective. Education requirement: Requires a bachelor or above degree in an accredited Engineering (mechanical, vehicle, material) curriculum What skills you will have: Technical Excellence: 4+ years working experience on drivetrain and/or mechanical design Deep working knowledge of drivetrain operation and application features. Good knowledge of Geometry Dimensioning & Tolerance Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Knowledge of design for manufacturability guidelines, methodologies, and use cases; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs and manufacturing operations. Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention. Product Testing: Knowledge of drivetrain product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing. Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of quality management process and tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA….). Fluent in English (reading, listening, writing and speaking). Software & Tools: Skilled use at Creo (3D modeling and 2D drawing) or similar design software Utilizes proprietary tools and processes to perform design analysis. Proficient in the use of MS office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Additional Information: The location for this position is Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China This position will require about 10% travel.
