The “Project Engineer, Soft Goods” works with US product development from concepts to production.
Review, evaluate, and generate feasibility studies on product designs. Direct model makers on soft goods development. Manage product costs and provide cost saving studies (VAVE).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
> Product development from concept to production (up through *** shipment). > Review, evaluate, and generate feasibility studies on product designs. > Manage preliminary costing against development efforts and provide cost saving studies (VAVE). > Oversee roller engraving and layout, follow tooling through debug and into production. > Manage the product development schedule according to ETE process and Workfront. Co-ordinate with Design and PI to set functional specifications. > Monitor EP, FEP, PP and PS with the support of the manufacturing team. > Coordinate with cross functional department to direct development process and set functional specifications > Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems. > Manage different stages of samples, ensure project on time deliverables, and provide SG support to other team members as needed. > Determine new material sourcing strategy, qualification, and support training of new factory resources. > Work with 3rd party to create and update Instruction sheet. > Control master data management. > Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
> 5+ years of professional experience in product development, fashion design, textile, manufacturing, project management, or any other related disciplines. > Comprehensive technical understanding and knowledge of Soft good constructions, cut & sew, fit and finish. > Solid experience and/or training in garment/ textile/ juvenile product. Home product experience is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. > Solid experience in color matching, fabric and accessories sourcing is a must. > Product cost estimation experience in Consumer product is highly preferred. > Must be self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. > Product development experience in Consumer Package Goods is highly preferred.
EDUCATION & SKILLS
> Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience is required. > Demonstrated ability to work and communicate across cross-functional teams in a matrix organization. > Understanding of the product development lifecycle and phase gate process. > Ability to execute and excel in a fast-paced organization. > Ability to deal with changing environments, tight timelines and multiple priorities. > Ability to influence others without direct authority. > Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. > Excellent written and oral communication skills – including the ability to describe technical details in a relatable manner to a variety of audiences. > Ability to visit vendors often to check product / update vendor on changes needed (eyes, and help at the vendor – one trip a month at minimum)
COMPUTER/TECHNICAL SKILLS
> Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel and Word). > Experience using design software, such as Adobe Illustrator.
