Job Summary and Scope: Materials Engineering and Sourcing Specialist II should have 5+ years working experience in Packaging and Printing Industry with a wide and professional knowledge of packaging materials, applications and manufacturing process. This role requires strong communication skills and the capabilities of supplier development and selection, should cost analysis and price negotiation for packaging procurement, cost level negotiation with strategic suppliers, technical problem solving. This role is responsible for materials engineering and commodity management for new product introduction and mass production, supporting Sales Team and Program Manager Team to extend global account, supporting Design and Test Team to drive significant improvement in new materials and new designs and to do tests with 3rd parties based on different test standards, improving supplier management and supply chain efficiency to ensure a reliable supply chain locally, supporting Supplier Quality Engineer Team to audit vendors to get good suppliers, support Supply Chain Team to make deliveries on schedule in proper packing method. Job Responsibilities: 61 Supplier Development and Sourcing o Manage existing supply base and maintain working relationships with suppliers to maintain adequate and continuous sources of supply. o Provide supply base overall analysis and plan of capabilities and capacity, support sourcing team to explore new vendors for business demands increase and business location expansion. o Assess supply base capabilities and capacity versus project requirements to select appropriate suppliers for new materials sourcing and new product introduction. 61 Project Cost Management o Communicate quotation requirements to suppliers clearly and negotiate with suppliers to obtain the most effective cost according to the should cost model. Ensure suppliers to understand overall business opportunities, milestone and Veritiv expectations for each account. o Provide total cost analysis including EX-Work cost, logistic cost and business model impact caused by different suppliers and working model choices. Negotiate pricing, delivery, terms and conditions to satisfy financial, quality and delivery requirements. o Project cost level analysis, and negotiate for consistent and competitive purchasing price based on should cost model. Identify potential price gap for each project and address the gap. Support cost saving analysis at account level and provide cost reduction proposals to bring down overall cost and drive for continual cost down opportunities. 61 Engineering and Manufacturing o Cooridinate and support the design for manufacturing reviews with the supply base and ensure all the customer requirements are fully understood at the beginning of a project. o Work with supply base on NPI sample and corrective actions to meet project quality, cost and delivery requirements. Independently manage the supply base tooling, sampling, mass production schedule and execution to ensure on time delivery. o Implement suppliers’ process qualification, identify process control plan and manage pilot run, fitting test, complete related reports. Manage internal and/or external project engineering change with the supply base. o Manage and coordinate 2nd source supplier qualification. o Support commodity library management with providing material specification, samples, application, limitation and capacity, and lead the communication and information sharing to cross-functional team. o Work with Design and Test Team for new material, new equipment and new energy introductions, new technology developments, and process, efficiency and yield rate improvements to identify and obtain cost optimization and better environmental protection at level. 61 Quality and Technical Problem Solving o Support technical problem solving of procurement quality initiatives. o Support SQE team for supply base corrective action plan and implementation 61 Team Work o Work on the development projects with cross functional teams. o Manage stakeholders expectations and lead team to ensure sample on time delivery. o Actively lead and participate in cross functional meetings. o Support Supply Chain Team for urgent/unexpected delivery request. Skills / Experience / Education Requirements: 61 Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or Printing Enginerring 61 5+ years work experience in packaging and printing industry 61 Strong Design of Experiments, technical and problem solving, Statistical Process Control and quality skills 61 Wide knowledge of packaging materials, products and production process, eg. Litho and Flexo corrugated box, Folding carton, Rigid box, Manual, Molded pulp tray, Thermoforming tray, Injection molding products, etc. Familiar with Offset printing, Flexo printing, Silk Screen printing, Gravure printing etc. 61 Good time management skills with ability to multi-tasks 61 Good data analysis and documentation skills 61 Capability to communicate and negotiate in different cultures 61 Strong English communication skills – both oral and written 61 Domestic and international travels are expected Working Conditions: (Describe any unusual working conditions, such as extreme temperatures, heights, hazardous materials, etc. State percentage of time spent traveling each month, if any.)
