Responsibilities: - Together with and with the guidance of the Director, Regulatory Compliance, develops and executes the strategic initiatives of the Regulatory Compliance Department, by leading and implementing projects for China, including: o Supporting all compliance practice areas (i.e., International Trade Compliance, Product Environmental Compliance, Information Governance, and Conflict Minerals, and, Checkpoint), providing guidance to Emerson Businesses in China regarding compliance with regulations and corporate policy as well as program improvement initiatives; o Maintaining compliance tools (including Archer): ensuring location records and self-assessments are complete and up to date, updating or implementing standards, guidelines, and self-assessment requirements, conducting program reviews/site visits, monitoring data related to self-assessments, etc.; o Assisting China Businesses in implementing operational procedures in line with Emerson Regulatory Compliance standards and addressing program gaps and improvement plans; o Conducting Regulatory Compliance due diligence, including for third parties and with respect to new acquisitions, and assisting in the investigation of suspected violations of company policy relating to Regulatory Compliance practice areas; and, o Assist in the development and issuance of alerts, announcements, training and other relevant communications, as applicable. - Consults and provides expert level advice regarding Regulatory Compliance matters (i.e., International Trade Compliance, Product Environmental Compliance, and Information Governance Conflict Minerals, and Checkpoint using collected data to review procedures and generated reports to address deficiencies in applicable programs; - Assists in strategic planning and roadmap development efforts to support the Emerson legal team; - Assists the Director, Regulatory Compliance, in the management of the communication strategy with project stakeholders and serves as the China Regulatory Compliance liaison; - Responds to escalations and questions from the businesses and/or members of the Legal team; - Maintains collaborative working relationships with all compliance and Legal team members and provides support to the Businesses as needed in their projects and pursuits; - Ensures that applicable system implementations satisfy Emerson requirements for internal controls; - Proactively and independently resolves complex challenges where precedent may not exist; - Identifies and advances strategic improvement opportunities and other tasks as assigned. Pre-requisite Knowledge and Skills: - Under-graduate degree required - 10 years of relevant work experience in Legal and Compliance o 5+ years direct experience supervising and leading teams, projects, and programs in the Legal Department - Subject-matter expertise in relevant US export control regulations and in relevant areas of trade compliance locally. - Working knowledge of environmental compliance anti-corruption and other relevant regulations - Proven ability to identify areas where process improvement is required, to develop process improvements with the businesses, and to assist the business in implementing those improvements. - Demonstrated problem-solving ability, communication skills and cross-cultural awareness. - Excellent oral and written English and Chinese language skills - A strong team member, able to shift roles as required by the group dynamic (e.g. contributor, facilitator), comfortable working with senior management - Strong organizational skills, reliable and good attention to detail, possessing good analytical skills and able to anticipate problems
