Education & Qualifications: o Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field (Master’s preferred). o Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification. o Proven experience in a leadership role within an educational setting, ideally in an international or independent school environment. o Extensive experience in teaching, with a strong understanding of curriculum development and educational standards. o Demonstrable experience in monitoring and improving teaching quality and student outcomes. o Experience in coordinating and administering external examinations. o Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, with a focus on curriculum design and delivery. o Previous experience in leading professional development and evaluating teaching standards. o Experience in working within a boarding school environment is highly desirable. 2. Key Responsibilities: 1. Leadership and Management: o Take full responsibility for managing and developing the Academic department on a daily basis. o Ensure high standards of teaching and learning across the school by supporting the ongoing professional development of teachers. o Lead the annual evaluation of teaching staff and actively participate in personal evaluations led by the Headmaster and Senior Leadership Team. o Foster a culture of positive professional development and a commitment to continuous improvement throughout the school. 2. Teaching and Learning: o Oversee the quality of teaching through long-term planning, regular monitoring, and appropriate interventions to maximize each student's potential. o Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Coordinator to maintain excellent standards in teaching and learning. o Ensure the consistent setting and high-quality feedback of homework. o Support the integration of effective English as a Second Language (ESL) practices, working with the ESL Coordinator to provide a strong, immersive English environment. 3. Student Progress and Curriculum: o Monitor and track student progress with the help of data coordinators, implementing interventions where necessary. o Oversee course changes and withdrawals, ensuring appropriate procedures are followed. o Supervise all external examinations, coordinating with exam officers to ensure accurate student entries. o Recommend and review curriculum updates, aiming for uniformity in assessment, reporting, and academic standards. 4. Curriculum Development: o Chair academic curriculum committee meetings and prepare an annual report on the curriculum. o Assist teachers in matching assessment tools to curriculum goals, and support textbook reviews across departments. o Serve as a resource for staff, recommending relevant professional development opportunities, workshops, and external speakers. o Network with curriculum directors from other independent schools to stay abreast of trends and best practices. 5.
