The Principal Engineer sets or leads the technology vision and direction for a major product family, functional area or engineering discipline. This role requires a strategic understanding of the patient/customer needs, product technology and IP of GEHC and our competitors. Position is relied upon to innovate and differentiate. The PE is responsible for driving elements of the multi-generational product. The PE coaches, mentors and develops the engineering community in process, career growth and technical excellence. Essential Responsibilities: 1. Driving elements of the multi-generational product plan as well as product specific development plans 2. Multi-generation segment technology planning and rationalization experience with an excellent understanding of product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies 3. Influencing strategic development of global product roadmaps with a focus on technical differentiation that addresses key customer needs 4. Influencing segment leadership and segment direction through action-oriented recommendations based upon market, competition, and technology 5. Serving as a technical readiness focal point for all pertinent personnel and/or customers 6. Coaching and mentoring in order to develop the engineering community in process, career growth and technical excellence 7. Identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvements and drive continuous process improvements to address those opportunities 8. Broad influence over large multi-disciplinary and/or cross-functional teams 9. Owns the business impact for strategic platforms, technologies or systems 10. Provides mentoring and coaching to develop technical talent 11. Provides expert guidance and support to the development organization in various technical/functional aspects of research, development and engineering 12. Solves complex and ambiguous problems 13. Leverage their technical/clinical depth to work on business initiatives aimed at driving technology harmony, innovation, process convergence and/or quality excellence for a particular product line 14. Drives design evolution across multi-generation product releases 15. Drives creation and adoption for engineering standards 16. Creates and supports the stewardship of intellectual property Basic Qualifications: 1. Master’s degree or above within appropriate Engineering/Science discipline 2. 12 years progressive experience as an engineer or scientist within the appropriate field of study 3. Demonstrated experience driving technology and segment planning processes with a focus on differentiation and financial return 4. Demonstrated ability to influence and drive segment direction utilizing internal and external resources on segment initiatives 5. Demonstrated strategic planning with experience in driving technical changes across a segment of products Quality Specific Goals: 1. Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position. 2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines. 3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required Desired Characteristics: 1. Masters or PhD Degree in Engineering or equivalent (defined as 12 years progressive experience within engineering, science, or related field, including 5 years project leadership experience within manufacturing, development, or research development) 2. 7 years project leadership experience within manufacturing, development or research environment 3. Vascular and large medical device development experience, complex new system design and motion control design experience 4. Strategic planner and thinker with ability to drive change across the segment products 5. Sound technical and domain experience in at least one functional technology area 6. Demonstrated experience on global product releases throughout the entire NPI cycle 7. Strong written and oral communication skills 8. Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task. 9. Demonstrated problem solving ability and results orientation 10.
