POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Sourcing Associate - Toys will support the Sourcing Manager in executing the strategic vision for the development and procurement of toys, ensuring alignment with Babyshop's growth plans and business initiatives. This role focuses on assisting in supplier management, product sourcing, cost optimization, and quality assurance for the toy category. The associate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (buying, quality assurance, logistics, and marketing) to drive efficient and innovative sourcing solutions while adhering to safety standards, sustainability practices, and corporate guidelines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supplier Management & Sourcing Execution - Assist in managing the vendor matrix for toys, including maintaining supplier databases, tracking performance metrics (quality, delivery, compliance), and supporting vendor onboarding processes. - Execute day-to-day sourcing activities for toys, including order placement, production follow-ups, and resolving issues related to timelines, costs, or quality. - Support the implementation of the "Fabric ***" initiative for plush/soft toys by coordinating fabric standardization efforts with suppliers.
2. Product Quality & Compliance - Collaborate with quality teams to address defects, non-compliance issues, and implement corrective actions with factories. - Monitor compliance with social and environmental standards (e.g., labor practices, chemical safety) for toy suppliers.
3. Market Research & Cost Optimization - Research new toy suppliers and manufacturing markets to enhance competitiveness, reduce costs, and diversify sourcing options. - Analyze cost structures (materials, labor, logistics) and negotiate pricing with vendors under the guidance of the Sourcing Manager. - Track global trends in toy materials, safety regulations, and innovations to inform sourcing decisions.
4. Order & Logistics Coordination - Manage end-to-end order cycles for toys, from sample approvals to bulk production and shipment tracking. - Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery, resolve shipping delays, and optimize packaging solutions.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration - Work closely with merchandising, design, and planning teams to align sourcing strategies with product development timelines and inventory needs. - Support the Sourcing Manager in presenting sourcing updates, risks, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
6. Data Management & Reporting - Maintain accurate records of supplier contracts, purchase orders, and compliance documentation. - Generate reports on supplier performance, cost savings, and production progress for review by management.
7. Project Support - Assist in driving initiatives like factory nomination programs for core toy lines and CSR projects (e.g., sustainable material adoption). - Participate in cross-functional projects to improve sourcing processes, reduce lead times, or implement new compliance frameworks.
Key Focus Areas for Toys: - Deep understanding of toy safety regulations, testing protocols, and material requirements. - Expertise in managing factory relationships for hardlines (e.g., plastic, electronic toys) and soft toys (e.g., plush, textiles). - Ability to balance cost efficiency with quality and ethical production standards.
