Our headquarters are in Hong Kong and we have hubs based in China (Shanghai), India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. We are now recruiting for a Technologist – Garment & Production to be based in Shanghai.
About the team The Sourcing Clothing Technical team is responsible for ensuring our products are safe, legal and meet our high standards. We ensure that our processes and best practices are followed within our Tesco-approved sites. We strive to partner with and empower trusted suppliers to deliver our high standards. We work in partnership with them to monitor their performance, regardless of whether they are new to us or we have longstanding relationships, and we focus on developing, supporting and training their team members to consistently manufacture products that meet / exceed Tesco standards. We do this through best-in-class quality control and assurance.
About the role The Technologist – Garment & Production will report to our Technical Manager – Clothing, China who is based in Shanghai, and play a vital role in driving our supplier base forward through continuous improvement, maintaining and improving our factory base standards, ensuring quality assurance across all relevant processes and monitoring our upstream supply chain. The successful candidate will ideally have experience within the Textiles and Apparel industry across quality assurance, quality control and standard operating procedures and process.
You will be responsible for - Evaluating products during fitting sample stage to ensure approved samples meet Tesco quality standard, safety and legal requirements. - Conducting Risk assessment for all products to identify potential quality, legal and safety issues, defining controls to manage them and providing solutions to potential problems. - Evaluating suppliers Sample room in order to meet and deliver the correct samples for Tesco - Working with UK technical team to create the blocks to ensure all correct blocks are updated and available. - Conducting pre-assessment visit for new factories to ensure we are working with factories who can meet the Tesco technical standards. - Monitoring factory audit /NCs status to ensure all factories achieve the Tesco audit standard. - Carrying out pre-production meetings at factory to ensure factory has a clear understanding on critical and major findings of the product and to ensure all issues are corrected before proceeding for BULK. - Carrying out Bulk inspection to ensure bulk production meet the Tesco quality standards. - Approving production samples to ensure samples represent the bulk standards. - Conducting Firewall audit to ensure the consistency of Tesco Way of working for the Self empowered factories. - Participating in Buying trip meetings, to support buying team through providing required technical inputs relevant to product - Contributing to supplier & factory training program & monitoring their performance with the relevant suppliers. - Monitoring 3rd party final Inspection to ensure 3rd parties are aligned with Tesco quality standards. - Reviewing factory production capacity and line allocation for Tesco to ensure we have the traceability of production to avoid the unauthorized subcontract.
You will need - Working experience in relevant Clothing industry - Good understanding and experience on garment fits/garment construction, product risk assessment, product safety and legal requirement, fabric construction and performance, fabric & garment testing, manufacturing processes, inspection processes, factory efficiency, factory technical compliance, technical audit standards and supplier management. - Effective communication skills - Fluent in English - Willing to travel frequently
