Job Summary As an Engineering Manager Mechanics, you are responsible for a team of Mechanical Engineers and report to the Engineering Director. The Mechanical Engineering Team’s main task is to transfer conceptual product designs from the European R&D team into high quality devices for mass production. In this role, you will be providing person-focused support and guidance for our engineers and will be responsible for helping recruit, onboard and mentor new engineers. You and your team are closely involved in the productdevelopment from the very beginning in order for your team to built a thourough knowledge of the products and their purposes. That way you are able to perfectly represent R&D towards internal stakeholders (Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain,etc...) as wel as external partners (suppliers, certifications instances,...) Together with your team, you handle product improvements and cost reduction trajectories as well as research for new production processes and technologies. The Engineering Manager Mechanics is responsible for the Mechanical Engineers and reports to Engineering Director. The Mechanical Engineering Team’s main focus is transferring from concept design of Belgian colleagues to high quality products in mass production. They know the products through and through to be able represent R&D towards internal departments such as Quality, Procurement, Industrialization, Project Managers,... as well as external partners such as suppliers, manufacturers, certification institutions,... The Engineers translate the feedback from the same departments/partners to the Belgian development team. They also organize testing of the products during beta and pilot run. Your team is also responsible for creating manuals and packaging.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Mechanical Engineering department management 81 Organization, approval limit, budget control, headcount plan, training & development plan, procedure setup & improvement… 2. Providing day-to-day people management and support for a talented team of in-house engineers, guiding and supporting their work. 3. Collaborate with the Belgian R&D team to translate business needs into technical solutions. 4. Liaise with external production partners to ensure products meet our stringent quality requirements and projects are delivered on time. 5. Encourage innovation and creative thinking in order to find the right solutions to meet the manufacturing demands 6. Grow the team through recruitment of new engineers and ensure rapid, effective onboarding of them 7. Perform Mechanical design reviews and Product function reviews 8. Perform new technology research design improvements and cost reduction trajectories 9. Organize Product testing evaluate and report the test results 10. Common communication & agreement with Belgium R&D team 11. Assist the sourcing team in supplier selection for newly developed components 12. Assisting the other departments in the organization with problems related to mechanics:
Required Skills and Qualifications
1. Master degree in Mechanical design, / Mechatronics design, / Mechanical manufacturing & automation or equivalent. 2. 3+ years of hands-on experience managing a team of engineers 3. Clear and efficient communication in English 4. Good knowledge of different production processes such as plastic injection / Extrusion/ metal fabrication / surface treatments / CNC / stamping / castings 5. Good knowledge of materials, their properties and their application in function of outdoor usage 6. basic knowledge of typical engineering software such as CAD and simulation tools, Product lifecycle or data management, ... 7. Experience in cooperating with a European enterprise is a plus 8. A willingness to get hands on, solving problems and creating understanding and alignment 9. Good communication and organizational skills
