Summary of role The Senior Employability Officer (SEO) provides comprehensive career support, guiding students throughout their academic journey. The candidate poses considerable related experience (preferably over 5 years with a master's in business related field) and certifications. The SEO offers personalized consultations, career planning, job search strategies, and skills training. This role demands strong industry knowledge, business insight, and a proactive approach to inspire students. Leveraging technologies like AI, the SEO enhances service efficiency, helping students navigate a dynamic job market. Additionally, the SEO designs and delivers training, manages projects, and continuously improves employability services for students.
Responsibilities Student Employability Development Activities
● Initiate, design instructions, plan and direct employability development programmes and products. ● Teach and deliver workshops and seminars in self-awareness, career planning, job-exploration, self-management, job seeking skills etc., to enhance student understanding of career development and management, career related skills and industry-specific job search information and processes; ● Collaborate closely with Programme Directors (PDs) to address the specific needs of each programme and ensure alignment with the needs of enrolled students.Regularly provide job-seeking skills (CV, Cover letter, Interview, etc.) training activities, workshops and coaching sessions to student in facilitating their job-seeking process and results. ● Innovate employability learning and teaching methods to improve student motivation and engagement. Enhance the employability outcome and generate impacts among a broader range of students. ● Gather employer feedback through various channels, analyze the gap between student capability and employer expectation, and interpret the findings to develop action plans. ● Work closely with WECareer team members, faculty members who require student development support in career management skills and knowledge; ● Provide students with professional, individualized career guidance and support; Student Support and Knowledge Building
● Arrange and offer one-to-one career consultation, CV revision and interview mock sessions to students upon request; ● Work with instructional designers, explore and develop employability online self-leading learning platforms (E.g. Learning Mall). ● Work agilely in adapting to emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance the efficiency of career services. ● Plan, record and review consultation processes, results and follow-ups, and maintain the professional execution of consultation progresses; ● Understand students’ needs in various study backgrounds (specified to programmes), make guidance on employability preparation and development as knowledge for students, integrate resources from multiple channels, and construct and evolve the digital employability resource centre. Project Management
● Oversee and guide the student-facing employability development projects from initiation to close. ● Plan and manage the project process, create and control the budget, and communicate with trainers, students and external stakeholders. ● Work closely with the student employability officer and marketing team to generate project exposure and publicity from the initiation to close. Industry Engagement
● Build and manage the IBSS employability talent pool, evolve and enrich the talent pool through various employability related projects. ● Help employers to grow and identify potential talents; ● Work closely with the Business Engagement and Executive Education team to align student and employer needs and to maximise the chance of student’s success in recruitment activities; ● Network with employers and establish beneficial contacts during external engagement activities such as Career Fair, On-Campus Recruitment Sessions, Employer Open House, Career Guest Speaking and other relevant activities; Recommend talents to employers when needed. Other Responsibilities
● Support important areas such as supervision of fellows, interns and student workers; ● Work with transferable skills training specialists, increase exposure of IBSS’s transferable skills development products and capability in outreaching initiatives; ● Other works that the School sees as appropriate within this position’s remit.
Requirements
● Master’s degree, with over 5 years of relevant experience in employability development. Working within a higher education institution and with industry experience is preferred. ● Hold recognized certificates in career consultation, coaching, fellowship for teaching and learning support in higher education ● Must possess extensive industry knowledge, strong business insight, and a proactive approach to inspire students through expertise and personal experience. ● Possess a solid cross-cultural background, excellent written and spoken skills in both English and Chinese languages; ● Excellent communication, coordination, presentation skills, teamwork and leadership skills; ● Ability to design and deliver employability development resources and instructions, and develop employability skills training content; ● Ability to initiate, create, and lead and manage a training project independently; ● Possess solid knowledge of and good familiarity with XJTLU culture and education philosophies, familiar with learning and teaching online system embedding Moodle function. ● Must have accountability, strategic thinking, creativity, adaptability and problem-solving skills. ● Ability to work on a variety of tasks at the same time, and to organise and prioritise them, including coping with unpredictable volumes of work and busy periods; ● Dependability, reliability and ability to produce work of high quality; ● With enthusiasm and good familiarity with the work of student employability affairs; ● Highly motivated and professionally committed, and willing to work on weekends and even on holidays, when necessary; ● With experience of problem-solving and emergency handling; ● Highly proficient IT skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and, possibly, Access), Outlook etc.
